Good advice-cell phone in water
I saw this question asked not too long ago and heard good advice to this today. Lady called into a radio show about having put her son's cell phone thru the wash b/c it was in his jean's pocket. The advice was to wipe dry as much as possible, remove the battery, then put the cell phone into a plastic zippy with a bunch of dry rice. 99.9% of the time the phone will be fine the next day. The dry rice will pull the moisture from the phone. Great advice. I haven't needed to try it but worth a try.
Our cellphone that went through the wash never worked again. So, we went back to one of the older phones and reactivated it.
One of the surveyors where I worked was caught out in a downpour when on a survey; his phone was soaked. He called Sprint; did what Debbie suggested - wipe as dry a possible - and the Sprint rep told him to put his oven on the lowest heat and leave the phone in there overnight or something. It worked fine after that. However, I have to believe that's probably the exception to the rule. LOL
This happened to me. I placed mine, with the back off, battery out in a container of kitty litter. It did work for a few months but then I just had to replace it.
