My firm moved our main office recently - and I will tell you that I really, really, REALLY hate moving. We were told that if we wanted to come in to the new office on the weekend between leaving the old office and moving to the new office, anyone who came in would get overtime. I went in for about 4 hours, partly to help out generally and partly to get my cubicle unpacked and organized. The firm bought lunch for everyone on both days.

Today I came home to find a $25 gift card good at all shops in several local malls, and a handwritten note from our COO thanking me for my help during the move. I have to tell you, I'm impressed. I'm assuming that everyone who came in on Saturday or Sunday got a similar gift, with a similar handwritten note - and that's about 30 people.

I know I work in a good place for good people, but sometimes they surprise me with how good they are.
