Tsunami disaster

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: Tsunami disaster

Have you watched anything on CNN about this?
I was in tears last night. They are pretty sure the death toll will go over 100,000. So many kids
who lost both parents. They showed thid little 8 year old boy who lost his entire family. He had tears running down his little face. I donated through networkforgood.com last night. I know America has its poor people but 100,000 dead and dead bodies just all over the place because they dont have enough help to bury them. CNN said that people will be judging America on how much we help. Hey if everyone gave even $10-20 it would add up. They even sand you an email you can print our for tax reasons. We all have so much and are so blessed. After watching all that footage all the little things I think I need just seem so unimportant now.......

I posted about this on the prayer board. It is so sad. I watched the primetime special about it last night. It was horrifying, seeing all the dead bodies lined up as far as you can see. It's just awful and the poor people had absolutly no warning!

You can also donate through Apple.com.

I had the same feelings. I told my dh, you can think things are bad because you don't have electricity for a few hours or something stupid like that. After watching that special i will never complain about stupid things again because i could have it SO MUCH worse!

Yes, this has deeply affected me as well. So many of the very poor were stricken. Can you imagine when you have little more than a roof over your head, a pot to cook in, and a blanket to sleep under and those every few things are gone?? Not to mention missing and dead family and friends. The concern about disease is huge, with cholera expected to possibly kill more than the actual tsunami. And the sad thing is...that in a week or so when it is not making the headlines so often, we will begin to complain about stupid things like being stuck in traffic, Blockbuster being out of the movie we wanted to see, and our kids being whiny at the store. I am praying for myself to keep those personally affected at the forefront of my mind throughout the coming months. They all have such a long road ahead of them.

My parents lived in Thailand for a couple of years but it was on the eastern side of the country and they barely felt a thing so thankfully no Thai friends were killed. No doubt those friends lost loved ones though.

We gave online to the Red Cross.

Haven't had a chance to donate yet. I have hardly been home all week. The death toll, according to MSNBC this afternoon, was 117,000. That number is too hard for me to comprehend.
