What's your most memorable New Year's Eve?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: What's your most memorable New Year's Eve?

Every time I think of New Year's Eve I can't help but remember Y2K and what we did that year. We have a cabin at Hume Lake (which was listed as one of the safest places to be during Y2K since it was self sustaining) and we went up there with 2 other families. We all just had 1 year olds back then, so when they finally napped together, the adults played Nintendo. We could barely get a TV signal, so we watched the fuzzy countdown with hats and horns blaring. We all shared a tiny rustic cabin with one bathroom. Fun times!

We had a fun Y2K New Year's too. We stayed at home and made a time capsule with the kids.

One New Year's I'll never forget was when DH and I were dating and we went to the city to spend New Year's. As we were driving out of the city we noticed a couple embracing each other in their window...NAKED! :)

Mine was 2002..thats when me and dh got married. We got married in Panama City Florida and then spent the night there and left to another part of florida to visit family....on the way out of Panama City we were stopped getting ready to make a left turn and someone hit us going 65 miles an hour and totaled my new car. We were fine and thank goodness the kids werent with us...but what a way to spend the honeymoon..stranded!

Mine was probably 1980. My dad worked third shift, so it was just my mom and me. I was 10. We got out wine glasses and put pop in them, and had crackers and cheeze whiz and ring bologna, and watched Dick Clark drop the ball. I wore my favorite blue flannel nightgown. Reagan had won the election and the hostages were freed from Iran. The Dukes of Hazzard was my favorite show. I got a Polaroid One Step camera for Christmas.

I have had a lot of fun New years parties.

When i was around 14 yrs old we had a sleep over at a friends house. Her parents were not home. Her mom was a neat freak. Near midight we ripped up all this paper to make confetti and when the ball dropped we threw it in the air and yelled "happy new year!"....to this day we swear that at 12:01 my friend had teh vacuum out to sweep up all the confetti before her mom got home. It just cracked us all up.

We also had a great Y2K fondue/new years party at my moms house with family and friends. There was a lot of wine consummed. My poor dh was sick in the bathroom and broke my mom's towel rack because he tried to use it to steady himself. LOL... I also remember that we woke up at 5:00a.m. Dec. 31st to watch the first millennium rung in on some island we had never heard of...it was really cool.

Mine was 2002. DH and I had just started dating and we decided to go to NYC for the ball drop. 6 hours standing in the freezing cold waiting was not fun but it was totally worth it. When the ball finally dropped and we kissed at midnight it was like we were the only two people in Times Square. We then went out to an Irish Pub and didn't come in until 4 am. I had to get up at 7am and drive 6 hours so that I could go work 4-midnight. I was dead tired but it was an awesome experience.

Mine was also 2002. We rented a log home for Christmas/New Years week from a friend of ours, way up in Maine. No phone, no cable, no computers, a break from all of the news about terrorism. Dh and the kids went snowboarding a lot. I did some shopping in Bethel. Lots of good food and company(we invited some friends up for a few days of it) It was very nice and relaxing.

Last New Years Dh crawled into bed beside me..ran his hand up my leg and wondered what kind of baggy undies I was wearing.....then he got to my chest and it was hairy....he was in bed naked and spooning my DAD !!!!!!! I was in the other room sleeping with my Ds and I heard Dh run into the living room(with a baby blanket wrapped around his waist) yelling "Gail! Gail!Something terrible has happened!"........gail is my mom by the way......I heard all my family laughing hysterically.......

good thing my dad was sleeping......LOL..

Ohmigosh, Gail, that is too funny! ROFL!

My best New Year's Eves have been the last 5-6 years or so, when we have spent New Year's Eve with our friends, eating supper and playing games until midnight! I can't even remember when we started doing this, it's been so long. We always have fun and the evening flies by! I'm looking forward to it.

Now, I remember one "memorable" New Year's Eve. I was in college and dating the "college boy." We were supposed to go out, one of the NYE that we were together and it snowed, so we couldn't. I was soooo mad, but what can you do? It wasn't worth getting into an accident over.

Another memorable one involved a snowstorm, too. I was out of college, but still single. My work friend was having a New Year's Eve party and I had already told her I couldn't come, because I was going home. I must have worked Christmas that year, so hadn't been home yet. I already had the car loaded up and ran back into my apartment for one more thing. The phone rang and it was my dad telling me that they were having a bad snowstorm and that I shouldn't come home. I was glad he called me, although, I was bummed because I couldn't leave right then. So, I called my friend and told her I could come to the party after all. I had a blast that night. I went home for Christmas the next day and the weather was great and roads were cleared, so it was a much better experience!

What can I say, I live in WI. Sometimes winter life is affected by the presence, or not, of snow!
