ANOTHER trip to the ER

ANOTHER trip to the ER
We went again last night. THis time it was for my oldest and his croup. I couldn't get it to calm down in the shower- we tried that twice. THen we called the dr, gave him 3 puffs of his brother's albuterol and we were still in trouble. He said he was having trouble breathing. They gave him oxygen in the ER and Orapred (like his little brother). The ER doc recognized me from CHristmas night- but was confused because I was with a different child! Both have follow ups this week. As my youngest said, "But I already went to the doctor!"
{{{HUGS}}} You poor mommy. I am so sorry you have had such a bad week. I hope he feels better soon and that you get some rest!
Hugs. That is so stressful. A peaceful healthy new year to you.
Oh, I have so been there too! My oldest is the one with asthma and my youngest has "reactive airway disease" and gets croup several times a year. He was hospitalized for it once. It's very scary AND very tiring!! Not a very relaxing Christmas break at your house, huh? Hope things calm down soon. (((Laura)))
I've been there too but not with asthma. When ds was 3 he fell and cut his knee. No biggie..cleaned it up and he was back to playing. About a week later he complained that it was sore so I looked and it was red. Took him to the doc..thought I would get some cream and be on my way. Ended up admitting him, spending a week in the hospital and him having surgery to remove the pus in the knee. He got out on a Friday and on Sunday dd (then 5)woke up with a sore throat. What made me have a look at it I don't know but it was the size of a golf ball. Took her in, they admitted her and we spent another week in the hospital. I hope your kiddos are feeling better
{{{Laura}}}
Oh goodness you are having a very hard time. Hope the kids are better soon.
You have really been through it! I hope both your dks are better soon.
I hope everyone's better. I've never had to deal with asthma or croup. Randy's had pnemonia and bronchitis, but I have a feeling it's not the same. {{{{{Hugs to all}}}}}
Wow, sorry to hear this. I hope they are all on the mend soon.
Well Douglas (croup/oldest) went for his check up today. As long as he's okay tonight (he wasn't last night but the shower calmed it down- unlike the night before), he can stop the steroids tomorrow. Morgan (asthma/youngest) goes for his check up tomorrow. I'm thinking his report is not going to be so good- he's still wheezing every three and a half hours- right before we give him the dose of Albuterol. His last day of the Orapred is supposed to be tomorrow. Definitely not the week of relaxation I was hoping for!
(((HUGS))) What a week! Bless your heart! It sounds like things are calming down...(fingers crossed!)
Oh, what a rough week. Both of my kids got croup when they were younger, but I never had to go the ER. The steamy bathroom always helped. Nothing could ever wake me up faster than that barky cough! Yikes! When Sarah was 5 months old, she got RSV. We went to the ER twice that week. The second time, they gave her some breathing treatments and that helped. She didn't have to be admitted. That was scary enough and about as close as she has ever come to probably being admitted. It was scary watching her breathe before we took her to the ER.
Laura, I hope you had a good night last night. I REALLY feel your pain now. I had 2 different boys appear beside my bed between 4-5 am coughing and saying "Mom I'm having wheezy breathing." So...I was cranking up the nebulizer and doing rescue inhalers through the wee hours of the morning and I'm pretty bleary-eyed today. Here's hoping for some rest and easy breathing all around!
You can say that again, Pam! As I suspected, Morgan is not doing well. He's still "on the edge." Today is his last day of the Orapred- but he still has to take ALbuterol 4 times a day. I'm also calling an allergist now to see if we can get a handle on that. HIs ear infection is still full blown- it's been a week and the Amox has done nothing- so he's switching him to Zithromax. He was actually surprised he could hear and wasn't screaming in pain (Morgan handles pain a little too well). Anyhow, we have to keep in touch next week and then go from there.... Definitely hoping for that easy breathing!
