Finally switching to DSL Questions!
We have decided to upgrade to DSL service! We just decided this last night. Today I'm looking around for different offers. What kind of DSL service do you have? How much do you pay monthly? Do you like your particular "brand" of service? What kind of special equipment/installments did you have to get? And, anything else I should know?
We use Grande Communications, one of the cable services in our community. We 'bundle' our telephone service, cable television, and DSL all on one bill. This has saved us some money. Our Internet portion is about $26 per month. We've had good luck with it so far, and it's been almost a year. The only equipment we bought was a wireless router (I think that may be what it's called) because we wanted to be able to use our laptops anywhere in the house.
We have SBC Yahoo! DSL and pay $26.95 a month and that included a free modem and self installation package. I believe right now (at least here in CA) they are having a special where DSL is only $19.99 a month but i'm not sure if you have to use any of their other services to qualify. If you get DSL, my experience is that it is so easy to install so dont waste the $100+ to have a technician do it for you. Good luck in your search.
We just signed up for DSL yesturday!! We decided to go with our phone company, it's 26.99 a month, and we either had to buy or rent the modem, we decided to buy it for 59.99. I am supposed to get it in the mail Monday, I am excited, but also nervous about setting it up, but the guy on the phone promised me that it was easy to do! We'll see!!
We have Cox Cable, at work we have Bellsouth DSL. It's pretty much a toss-up as far as speed and service, however, I *have* found that we've had less outtages with the cable over the years, though any outtages have been infrequent anyway. Either way, you need a DSL or cable modem. I'd shop prices and packages, i.e. free modems/free installations/first 3 months discounted/bundled packages, etc.
I've had phone company DSL and cable DSL. The cable is faster, more reliable and less expensive. Ame
We use Cable DSL through Earthlink and I really like they're services. We had a chance to switch again for cheaper (the one year deal ran out) and we decided to stay with Earthlink because its worked for us so well. I'm not a big fan of Road Runner but other anything else I really don't know much about.
Thanks I'm finding that the hardest part about finding a service is availability in our area.
We have cable DSL and love it! It's about $25/month, but I also get a student discount. I would recommend buying the cable modem---much cheaper in the long run.
We have cable service through our local cable company. If you use their modem, it's $5/month, forever. We decided to buy our own modem and are glad to not be paying the extra money. We hardly ever have an outage, so that's nice, too.
