Yesterday's News Cat litter

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: Yesterday's News Cat litter
By Breann on Friday, December 24, 2004 - 01:40 pm:

Is the BEST cat litter we've ever purchased!! Melissa-Boxzgrl recommended this instead of shredded newspaper when we recently had our cat declawed.

We won't be switching back to regular cat litter! This stuff is amazing. It doesn't leave the dusty smell behind. No matter how much Prancer digs there is no dust. And, it absorbs the smell sooooo well. I didn't even realize that he had pooped (sorry) in it until I was looking real close trying to figure out if I needed to change it. It's just great. I can't say enough good things about it!

We bought it at wal-mart. We have been using the arm-and-hammer brand scoopable/flushable litter until now.

The only down side I see to this is that it isn't flushable. And, it's not really scoopable like regular scoopable litters, but you can spot scoop it.

Since the day we brought Prancer home he's been sneezing a LOT. We mentioned it to the vet when we took him in the other day. He said let's get the declawing over with and healed and then bring Prancer back in. He said it's possible that he may even have allergies and there is a shot they can give for that. Well, since we've been using the Yesterday's News Litter he hasn't sneezed at all! I wonder if he was just irritated by all of the dust from the regular litter.

Wow! I owe you big time Melissa! This is great all around.

We pay the same amount for this litter as we did for the flushable litter. About $6 per bag/box.

I may have to look for that. I ran out of littler box liners this morning, and since I change the litter every Friday, I ended up dumping the used litter into a trash bag and putting the liner back with new litter in it. I think I must have inhaled some dust because my nose and eyes have really been bothering me since. I don't have many allergies, but from the few I do, I know what it feels like and I don't like it!!! I'll look into Yesterday's News.

It is awesome, I don't think you'll regret it. It looks a little odd. Small pellets. But it sure works great. I should do a commercial lol. I'm completely sold on this!

I had never heard of it until Melissa brought it up in another post.

Thats great that it is a big hit with you. It looks like rabbit food to me, lol! I actually knew a few people who continued using Yesterdays News after the declawing as well because of how they liked it. I feel so special, my advice was actually worth while for once , lol! :)

But if Yesterdays News saves your from a cat with allergies, its cheaper by a long shot! :) I saw his picture in the photo sharing area. He's a cutie, I have a black and white cat too but I love Prancers facial markings.

Glad you like it. It didn't work for us. My favorite is Fresh Step Crystals. No mess, no dust, no smell, lasts forever. I get it in a bucket at the wholesale club

I've never heard of it. My mom is SOOOOOO picky about her kitty litter. Geesh!!! She drives me nuts over it when I do her shopping.

When she had her cat declawed months ago I shredded newspapers for her to use. I wish I'd known about this stuff!

By Boxzgrl on Friday, December 24, 2004 - 06:42 pm:

I'm not picky about cat litter..... my cats are! They will ONLY use the litter if it is the clumping cat litter. Otherwise, they will poop right next to the cat litter box until I get the "good" stuff! PIcky, picky cats! Sheesh! :)

We use a similar product for our chinchilla, but it's recycled "raw" fibers, to avoid making her sick from any chemicals. Her cage never smells, and that stuff is absorbant. I think we're going to try the Yesterday's News for the cats now, because their box STINKS all the time, and they make a serious mess kicking litter. Thanks for the recommendation! My only question... does it last as long as say, Tidy Cat? Is the cost the same in the long run?

Brean - It's what we use too. Out cat's not declawed but that stuff doesn't spread everywhere, doesn't stink at all. It is expensive but we're in a house that's less than 800 sq. feet and with any other litter the smell woud permeate the house. This stuff, you can stand right over it and not smell a thing.

They should pay us for these endorsments! ;)
