What's worse than AF arriving???
Getting a yeast infection at the same time. And promising DH some long awaited "couple time" only hours before the 2 of these came to visit. Grrrrr...... go away yeast infection and go away AF, your not welcome here!!!!!!! So, can I use Monistat with AF here? I checked their website but couldn't find anything pertaining to that. Is there anything better than Monistat out there? Sorry if this is a WAY TMI post.......
Call your Doc and ask for the one time pill. I've only had one yeast infection, years ago while I was preggo, but my sis just had one while she was having a "visit" and the doctor had her pick this up. She didn't even have to go in for an appointment. She really liked the convenience about it. Hugs regarding the timing of it. BTDT It sucks for your DH and you.
I think I need to talk to the doc regarding a longer term rx of fluconasole since I seem to get yeast infections every 2 months or so. I just read up on this a few days ago so as much as I hate the gynecologist, i'm going to make an appt for sometime after Christmas.
Just call and ask for Diflucan. It works well. I think that's what Karen was referring to. Ame
I'm an idiot and I'm tired...I cannot figure out what "AF" stands for??
LOL.... A.F. = Aunt Flo .... aka, Monthly Cycle.
Don't worry about it mrsheidi I could not figure that one out either but now that boxgirl told us, it all makes sense. lol
I couldn't figure out what AF was. If figured it was some way of saying your period LOL! We called it our "friend" (don't know why, it's not MY friend LOL" I never heard of calling it Aunt Flo.
I didn't know either! LOL! We have all been educated now!
My old GYN used to call in the Rx for the one-time pill, Diflucan. It worked GREAT! My new GYN doesn't like that, claims it doesn't work, but I can tell you from experience, it WORKS.
Karen, isn't Diflucan for use in just one infection? I just read a study (in Cosmo of all places, so i'm going to verify it online) that in studies where woman who were constantly infected (every 2-3 months) who took Fluconasole once a week for 6 months saw a 90% reduction is yeast infections when asked 1 year later. I've been getting these infections every few months since DD was born and even more so since DH got home. It's quite annoying and i'm ready to get in fixed. In June I had my annual pap and every test you could imagine to rule out other possibilities and everything came back fine, though the doctor did note it looked like an infection or something leading to one. The tech called back with my lab resukts but I never heard from the doctor re: any treatment or anything. So, I guess i'll start back out at square 1 and hopefully get rid of this! For good!
Ha ha ha..now, I get it...I just sat at my computer last night for 5 minutes trying to figure it out! Yes...after having a baby and now that he's almost 6 months old, we PRAISE the ol' A.F.! I come out of the bathroom with a song and dance! We'll see how long that lasts! LOL! And, Melissa, sorry to hear...I know you guys are TTC (hey, I actually know what that means!), so I feel for ya!
Isn't it yeast infections that can be passed back and forth?? For some reason, I am thinking that it is....has your dh ever been treated??
I did a quick search and I was correct in my thinking that it can be passed back and forth. From what I read, it says that when a wonam gets one, her dh should be treated too. Men have really no symptoms of it and rarely even know they have one unless it gets really bad and it presents itself as something else. I would do a little online research if I were you and talk to your doctor about treating dh along with yourself for it. If you are getting them that often, I bet your just passing it back and forth!!
Wow, thanks Vicki. I never even thought about that since DH never had any symptoms. I'll talk to him about it when he gets home so he can get treatment as well. Maybe we'll try that and see if these go away all together.
I'm surprised that your dr. didn't mention that. The one time I had it, the dr. just prescribed some meds for my dh also. She just does it routinely. Definitely ask for that!
Yes you can both get it. sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't. But if you are haivng issues with having one constantly then you probably need to treat him too. Also you can have a yeast infection without all the itching, so chances are you just haven't ever been 100% clear. You can treat dh with vagisil or lotrin AF, both over the counter meds.
And another thing... Having a yeast can make it hard TTC. You need to be checked out and you need to have DH treated also. He shouldn't have to do anything. They should just give him some medication. It is common for it to be passed back and forth...
Just wanted to add: I used diflucan on a regular basis since I suffer from rectal yeast infections too. However, I can no longer use this as my hands now blister (the fingertips), swell and itch incredibly within 24 hours of use! Is there any other medication out there that works as well?
Okay, get this: DH went to the doc for an rx but the doc wouldnt give it to him because he had no yeast infections signs. He went through and questioned him about everything and it turns up DH has jock itch (The man ALWAYS has it, I swear) and the doc said it can spread during intercourse?? Never heard of that but, uh, okay!?! He gave him a topical rx. What do you girls think? Ever heard of that?
Never heard of that one either. I hate to sound stupid, but wouldn't jock itch be kind of obvious? I guess I have never seen it, but wouldn't there be little pimple type things that itched?? LOL Were you two together when he had it??? I don't think I would want to be with dh that way if he had some type of rash thing going on. LOL Maybe I am clueless as to what jock itch is?? Did you look it up on the net at all??
So is the Dr. suggesting that you keep getting jock itch and not a yeast infection? It seems like there is a pretty big difference between the two, especially for a woman. Dh hasn't ever had jock itch but I didn't think there was a cure for that, it just gets treated as it flares up. Is that what you are going to have to settle for? Yuck! I hope you get to the "bottom" of this soon! (Sorry, I couldn't resist! )
LOL Cori! I guess what the doctor was saying is that jock itch is a fungus that can spread and maybe I don't have a yeast infection but maybe a fungal one?!? I don't know? DH has always had a problem with jock itch since he's been home from Iraq but its always been mild and not even close to severe. I'm going to read online some more and try to figure this out. The dr. even denied his request for Diflucan. But remember, we ARE talking about military doctors. Not the brightest doctors around by far!
That sounds really normal. For a man the treatment for a yeast infection is a topical one. I even think there really isn't any difference between the two, yeast is a fungus I believe. Treat yourself now too, if you don't both get cleared up at the same time you never will be all clear!
I believe Kaye is right. There are two kinds of Jock itch. One is fungal one is yeast... Let me look... This is what I found... Jock Itch Jock Itch Appearance "The rash of jock itch starts in the groin fold usually on both sides. If the rash advances, it usually advances down the inner thigh. The advancing edge is redder and more raised than areas that have been infected longer. The advancing edge is usually scaly and very easily distinguished or well demarcated. The skin within the border turns a reddish-brown and loses much of its scale. Jock itch caused by T. rubrum does not involve the scrotum or penis. If those areas are involved, the most likely agent is Candida albicans, the same type of yeast that causes vaginal yeast infections." Have him use the topical and get yourself something and treat yourself at the same time. I would bet money he is passing it back to you... Once you both get cleared up you should notice a major decrease in the infections. IF you get another one he needs to be treated again also.
This is all very informative I haven't had a yeast infection before and my dh hasn't ever had jock-itch before either. But I have a good friend that has recurring yeast infections. I'll have to tell her what I've learned here.
