Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: What are the "traditional" holiday meals and such?

I'm emailing my Mom a list of what I have so she can tell me what I have left to buy. My problem? I can't think of what the traditional foods are.

I have
Turkey & Ham
Green Bean Casserole
Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
Candied Yams
Pumpkin Pie
Rolls

.... but after that my mind draws a blank! Help!

By My2cuties on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 - 11:23 am:

stuffing,
cranberry sauce

is all I can add and then MY mind draws a blank...sorry. :)

By Mrsheidi on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 - 11:26 am:

Decaf Coffee

Christmas Eve we have:
Steak fondue
ceasar salad
garlic bread
cheesecake

Christmas day we have:
shrimp cocktail
Filet minon
baked potatoes
salad
bread sticks
cake
and we make and decorate sugar cookies

Lots of red meat huh?
Guess we are not "normal" :) but these are our traditional meals.

We always have some sort of jello salad. I also have a wonderful recipe for sweet potatoes that are a little different than the norm. I would be happy to share it if you need one Melissa.

It's only going to be about 8-10 people. Just my immediate family, nothing big. So, thats why I was sticking to the basics.

I think I have it all:
Turkey and Glazed Ham
Stuffing
Candied Yams
Mashed Potatoes w/ Turkey Gravy
Green Bean Casserole
Pumpkin Pie
Apple Pie
Cranberry Sauce
Spiced Wine (new this year, I *really* want to try it)

... and I think that will be it. I just don't want to forget about any "normal" dishes that someone may be expecting.

My SIL doesn't make mashed potatoes, because she is at her mom's for the first part of Christmas day, then comes home and puts together the meal. She always makes cheesy hash browns. Yummy!
