Update on Jack's "growing pains"
We went to the orthopedic surgeon yesterday and they took an x-ray of his legs. They didn't find anything wrong, thank goodness. They are going to send him to 6-8 weeks of therapy to try and get him off of his tip toes.
Thanks Great! Well, atleast that its nothing severe. I hope he feels better soon. Has there been any progress since he originally complained about the pain?
Glad nothing was bad wrong,
Last night he woke up with pain again, but not as severe as the couple of times that made him throw up. Hopefully this is something he will outgrow soon. Thanks guys
I'm really glad it's nothing more serious - you have to be relieved!
Did you ever try the bananas and ornage juice?
I missed your original post, but has his doctor mentioned the possibility of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis? I don't know all the details of your son's pain, but I was just wanting to ask, my son was diagnosed with JRA last year, he had leg pains on and off for a few years before we got a diagnosis, he also had many other symptoms that came later...anyways, I am glad nothing was found in the x rays, and I hope he is feeling better really soon.
He has been eating lots of bananas here lately, hopefully it will help. I mentioned to the doctor that I was concerned about JRA, but he said that to him it didn't sound like he had any symptoms of that. His knees weren't swollen and he didn't run a fever in his legs. Is that the only symptoms?
My sons symptoms were a little more odd than that. He did have knee swelling, but he can having swelling in any of his joints (he now gets it in his hands and sometimes shoulder). But he got unusual rashes, he kept getting strep, he started wetting the bed. It is a whole immune system issue.
Like Kaye, my son had some odd symptoms that occurred later, but in the beginning, it was just leg pains, with no swelling or anything else. Just keep an eye on him, and it really wouldn't hurt to consult with a pediatric rheumatologist just for a second opinion, especially if his pain continues.
Also let me add that we saw a pediatric orthopede for nearly 2 months because of the swelling, the did a lot of blood work, drained his knee etc. We were sure it had to be an injury. But they had to refer us to the rhuemy because they really just don't know about that stuff. They should run blood tests to rule stuff out. Jodes, how is your son doing lately? We have been having small flares on and off this fall, ugh.
