What to get BIL and SIL for Chirstmas
I'm stummped. What do you ladies get for your relatives? They've been married for about 3 years. No kids. They live in a different state. They have a lot of stuff. I hate to go the gift certificate route. They will be here visiting for Christmas and I would really like them to be able to open a gift. I also have no idea what to get my MIL and FIL. I was thinking of getting a nice throw blanket and having it emroidered to read "Grandma & Grandpa". Is that too tacky? Help! What are you buying the inlaws?
Do you have to pay for some sort of membership fee to places such as blockbuster? I was thinking of doing something like the ultimate movie basket. Complete with blankets, treats and so on. I would include a gift card to blockbuster, but I want to make sure they can just go there and use it and not have to sign up for something.
If you give a Blockbuster Giftcard, they cannot use it unless they have a membership there. Stinks...I know. What about a movie basket with a movie that they really like. For my MIL & FIL, I got them each an ornament. One says, "#1 Grandma" and the other says "#1 Pops". For my SIL, I am getting her a purse with her intials on it. She has been looking for one and can't find one, so I found one. I also got her an ornament that says "#1 Aunt". For my BIL I got him an ornament that says, "#1 Uncle" and I have to get him something else, but don't know yet.
Ornaments are a cute idea! I would get them a dvd that they like, I just don't know of one. We hardly ever see them/talk to them. I don't know what they have and what they don't have. I guess we could ask them What would they have to do to get a membership at blockbuster? (if they don't already have one) Do they have to pay for it? Or just sign up?
I just had a thought. We could get them a wal-mart gift card and make a cute little card for it showing that it's to purchase their favorite movie.
How about a gift certificate to a local restaurant that they could use while they are in town??? You can still wrap it up in a box!!
For Blockbuster, all you need to sign up is a Credit Crad. You don't have to pay anything. The Wal-Mart idea is cute too.
Also with Blockbuster, you don't need a membership to buy things, only to rent things. They also sell movies, used games, etc. But you do need to make sure they have a local Blockbuster. For my brothers it's a good 40 minute drive to the closest one.
I'm lucky. With my one BIL and SIL, we just agreed not to buy gifts for one another. They buy stuff for the kids and that is it. The same with my sisters, too. We just don't know what to buy each other anymore, so we just buy for the kids.
My SIL sent out a wish list. On it was wine and cheese stuff, stoppers spreaders, etc. She also loves movies. You could do a romantic evening basket, a flannel throw, a bag of hersheys kisses a candle and a movie. I woudl think of a theme and then toss some small stuff into a basket or bag. I think those gifts are always fun to open. Ice cream sundaes, italian cooking night (include a cd with italian music), mexican cooking, date basket (disposable camera, tickets to a movie, gc to a resturant), making memories (tickets to something fun (zoo, museum, etc a camera and a small scrapbook). Also you can find cute little things that look like decks of cards that say 52 things to do (like cheap things to do, romantic things to do, things to do before you die etc) you could get a deck, open it and supply what they could need for one of the ideas.
Dawnk777, I wish we would do something similar. Maybe just agree to exchange a $20 gift certificate or something. It's so hard to know what to buy each other when we all already have everything. I did check to see where the nearest blockbuster is to them. It's just 2.2 miles from their house. A wish list is a good idea!! Everyone should be required to do that lol. Include things in all price ranges. Maybe I'll suggest that for next year.
I'm an only child, but my dh is the eldest of 6, so for quite a few years now, the grownups (siblings, spouses, significant others) draw names. I drew the BIL I'm closest to, so I'm going to find some fun golf stuff (Caddyshack has always been an ongoing joke, so I think I'll get one of those gopher golf covers). I have 6 nephews, and I get them each something - for several years now I've gotten the boxed desk calendars - tear-a-day - there are so many fun topics that they seem to enjoy it, and it lasts all year.
I have not read the other post`s but here are some gift idea`s that we have made or bought. The no sew fleece blanket`s that you make. get 2 yard`s for the top and 2 for the bottom cut 4 inch strips all around and tie in knott`s.Even the kids can help with this one making it more sentimental. They wear SO well, and are so warm and comfy. They have such cute pattern`s now also. a gift basket with home made jam`s and jelly. include a festive table cloth and napkins some home made breads and tea or coffee. Homemade soaps. I buy them on line you can buy a whole 3# loaf of it and cut your own bars ,wrap them in cotton christmas material tie a bow and make a little basket maybe include a nice loofa or some body oil`s ,candle`s, a gift certficate for a massage ? Just some idea`s that I have used and everyone seemed to enjoy.
