Kid tracking device!
Tracking Your Kid I hope that link worked...I've never done that before.
I'm not trying to sell this or anything, but I put this up there to see if anyone would actually buy something like this. What do you think? (I bet parents with driving teenagers could get used to the idea, no?) It even has a "lock" on it so they couldn't take it off. Wanted opinions...
I think it seems kind of neat. I would have to do more research on it before buying one, but I like the idea of being able to track my children - you know in case of emergencies.
I don't agree with this, it is a complete lack of trust in older kids wearing this. In Younger children, I wonder why would you need it. Just My Opinion.
For emergency situations. If they wandered off - I watch my children, but I am not perfect and things like that happen every day. It isn't just so parents can keep track of their children, it has other uses too - like the person wearing the device can press a button that calls 911 in emergencies, you can use it as a pager, it has an alarm if someone cuts the watch to remove it, etc. I think it's a neat idea. I wouldn't say that it would be a complete lack of trust in older kids in all cases, I think the purpose is for safety reasons, not nesscesarily to spy on your kids. That's my opinion.
Just my honest opinion, of a mother of 3 DKs 18,10 and 4. When my 16 year old started driving he would probably never wear something like this. And if I didn't have enough trust in my 16 yo to drive and be out he wouldn't be. As for my 10 and 4 yo they are never out of my sight to need something like this. I tried to access the info for this and couldn't. The 911 access could be a good feature, but until I could get more info on this product I would have to wonder.
I doubt my kids would wear that, especially the 15yo. Can you see wearing that with your homecoming dress or a prom dress? Yeah, right.
Looks like what they used in the episode of Extreme Home Makeover a couple weeks ago for the autistic, blind child. In cases like that, yeah, it's a great idea! It does question trust issues with older kids, imho. It would be a wonderful safeguard for younger ones, but nothing is a substitute for direct supervision. I'd be willing to bet parents of kids that have dissapeared with tragic results would be all for this (and if in their situation, I would too). You never know, some kids/teen may like the security of it (or the thought/idea of security) and may actually agree to wear one. Robin probably would (now, who know when he's older).
I agree that I wouldn't get one for a teenager, but for a younger child I think it's a great idea. Last year there was a child in our area who wandered off from his home and got lost in the wood. He was outside all night long. When they finally found him his parents commented that they were going to get one of these for him. Their child could have been found quickly had they known just where to look.
