Anyone doing "Curves"?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2004: Anyone doing "Curves"?
By My2girlygirls on Friday, November 19, 2004 - 01:44 pm:

A friend of mine told me that one of her co-workers has been doing it for 6 weeks and has lost 9 pounds. I don't know much about it. I know that it is for women and it is a 30 minute cycle. That's about all I know. Anyone else know any more about it?

Yes, lots of my co-workers go at lunch. (Many Curves places are not open in the evenings.) They love it. You rotate in a circle using machines in some places and do some exercise in place in other spots. You spend a very brief time at each station. I can't remember the time, but it's short. Then everyone on the circle rotates. (I think there's some recording or something over the PA system that gives directions.) They whole circle takes 30 minutes to get through. They have give-aways too. My co-workers are always coming back to work with t-shirts and stuff that they won somehow. It's women only and our most self-conscious co-workers even feel comfortable there.

Hubby keeps saying he wouldn't mind if I signed up. I should just do it! I need to lose weight. I just don't know if I really have the discipline to keep going.

I have been "threatening" to join for months!LOL I went and checked it out, and it looks good. I think it's a good way to get started exercising...If you really wanted to become "buff" you would probably need to "graduate" to a gym after a while. It would be perfect for me, because I just need to GET OFF MY BUTT. (I gave up on "buff" a long time ago!) I really just need to go and do it.

Me and my neighbor started Curves 3 weeks ago and I LOVE IT!! It only takes about 30-40 minutes of my day, and I am done!! So far I have lost 2 lbs and 2 1/2 inches in my waist.. They will measure all of my total inches next week.. Not only do I like going because it makes me feel better, but it is a little of "me" time, I'm not one who likes to exercise but surprisingly I really enjoy Curves.. You stay on each station for 30 seconds and then you switch, they have aerobic steps between some of the machines and you can do whatever you want on those and then they have these square pieces of wood, kind of like boxes, that you can do jumping jax or whatever to get your cardio going and you also stay on those for 30 seconds at a time.. I am only able to make 3 rounds right now, but am hoping that after my 4th week I can add another.. I think you would enjoy it, the time really flies because you are chatting with the other ladies!!

I do it and I love it. It is close to dd's preschool so I go as soon as I drop her off. I don't know how it is at the other ones but at ours everyday is different. One day we have hot spots and when the timer goes off, if we are in that spot then we get to put our name in for a drawing. Another day some of the spots have bean bag toss and if we win we put in for the drawing as many times as we win. On Fridays we do doubles, instead of going around twice we just do each spot twice before moving on. Its nice to not have guys looking at you while you work out like they do at the base gym.

Love it, love it, love it!! My only complaint is that it's not closer to my house, so I usually only get there two times, maybe even only one time a week. :(
It's a great program, IMO..very doable.
