Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2004: Anyone with a 7 year old?
I have a half brother who is 7 and I am SO out of touch with what kids their age are "in to" these days. I want to give him something that is a surprise for Christmas that he will fully enjoy. Any ideas?
I have a 7yo girl but she has several boy friends. Most of them are into some kind of video games. The boys here are really into skateboarding, snowboarding and bike-riding. Some are into Bionicles or some kind of superhero, although the superhero thing seems to be more of the "younger" 7 year olds. Some of them are into specific sports and teams now. HTH

My seven year old loves anything to do with lizards.
How about a scooter, I only have 1 nephew that is that age, but he is spoiled rotten..

They are all so very different! Just reading this post has made me chuckle. My kids aren't into Yugioh, Bionicles, Beyblades, Spiderman,... or that type of thing at all. DS (8) is very into sports (Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox) and computer and PS2 games. DD (6) likes horses, dogs, cats, Hello Kitty, My Little Pony, Snoopy\Peanuts, Garfield,...
I also have a 7 year old who is not into any of this! He likes- board games, and things he can ride on (scooters, skate boards, etc...)
You could just give him a gift certificate to Toy's R Us. I know when my now 11yo was 7 he won one at school and was absolutely thrilled about it! If that had been all he'd gotten that Christmas he would have been in Heaven.

I have two nephews, one is 8 and the other is almost 10. I know they love playing the X-box and the 8 year old loves anything army and cowboy.
My ds will be 7 in a few months. He is very into Legos, sports, computer games, board games, and he loves to draw.
Yeah, i could ask my S'mom. I am just trying to be sneaky. my family knows all the time what they are getting for christmas...i just thought it would be more fun this way. ;-)i know he has lots of everything already...i might try SI for kids though. I'm a big fan of reading and i know he loves sports, so that might encourage him to learn how to read even better. I got him a math game last time that he had to jump from one # to the next. so, it combined exercise and math. he loved it!

My 7 y/o son loves SI for Kids too! I think that would be a great choice!
I second the Yugioh! My 7 year old is all about Yugioh. He also really enjoys Bionicle, Ninja Turtles, and Pokemon. Good luck.
Beyblades is hot with the boys in my area. Hot wheels is another, motorcycles, transformers. My ds loves dinasours and coin collecting just to name a few!
I have a ds who just turned 8. He loves Yu Gi Oh! and he used his birthday money to buy himself a Nintendo 64 game system (used- they haven't made them in years!) and he now loves Zelda and Mario.

When he was 6 he got a scooter and he loved it, and he is hard to please. Other than that I was thinking along the same lines as Cori suggested, video games or maybe even a couple dvd's if he likes certain types of movies. How about asking him to give you a list of what he likes and then pick from that. I do that with my nieces, it works VERY well for me and noone looses out.
