Has anyone been sick for a long time?
I got bronchitis and a sinus infection about 6 weeks ago. I was really sick for almost 3 weeks. I had to go to the doctor twice and was on two rounds of antibiotics. I finally felt better after the second round of antibiotics was done. Then not 2 weeks later I was sick again. I have been feeling bad for almost a week. In fact, I just made another doctor appt. for Monday morning. I have never been sick like this. I have lost 8 lbs in the last 6 weeks. Not that I am complaining, I had about 10 to loose. However, I am just so frustrated with feeling tired and down. Has anyone else been sick like this?? How long did it take you to get over it?
YES! Last year i came down with bronchitis on Thanksgiving and didn't start feeling better till New Years! That was a horrible holiday season for me! Anyway, i did go to the Dr.and she prescribed something for me. I don't remember what it was called, but I started feeling better, then it came back. I went back to the Dr. and she gave me Zithromax which was expensive but totally kicked the bronchitis's butt! She told me that i didn't STILL have bronchitis, i had bronchitis AGAIN. How could she tell? I don't know and i didn't believe her at the time. I hope you get better quicker than i did. I totally know how you feel! --Patti
Two years ago I had bronchitis which turned into pneumonia. I was able to rest at home but I was out of commission for about three weeks. And was still run down for a total of six weeks. Take your medicine and try to get plenty of rest. Hope you're on the way to a speedy recovery!
Get a new toothbrush! There are still germs on the one you were using when you were sick! Take a paper towel or a clean rag and wet it with a mixture of bleach and water (1-3or4 parts) and wash off all of your door knobs and light switches, the toilet handle, cupboard door handles/knobs, faucets handles, the phone, your keyboard and mouse (carefully), the buttons on the microwave, the remote to the TV/VCR/Cable/Satellite, and anything else that gets touched several times a day every day around your house. WASH YOUR HANDS! WASH YOUR HANDS! WASH YOUR HANDS! WASH YOUR HANDS! WASH YOUR HANDS! WASH YOUR HANDS! WASH YOUR HANDS! WASH YOUR HANDS! WASH YOUR HANDS! WASH YOUR HANDS! WASH YOUR HANDS! WASH YOUR HANDS! Wash your hands after you blow your nose, sneeze, or cough. Shut the heat down and open all your windows for an hour or so. Get all the stale dry stuffy air out of your house. (If you want you can shut yourself in one room for a while and when you close the rest of the house back up, open up that one room.) This works! I did this when I did daycare, and for one whole season, we never had any illnesses! My grandma's doctor also told her to do this. She is 78. Hope this helps!
we have all had that in our family.I can`t believe how tired it make`s you !!! we were all on antibiotic`s and the kid`s all had ear infections with the sinus infections. If you don`t catch it right a way you can be down with it for some time. I had mine for 2 weeks with 10 day`s of antibiotic`s. My friend has had it for 4 week`s now. She thought she could shake it. She couldn`t and kept getting really tired. Now she`s on some med`s also. The bad thing about antibiotic`s is that they kill all the bad and Good germs in your body so after you take the scheduled dose your immune system isn`t strong enough to fight off bad germ`s that well. My kid`s would alway`s get sick after a week of antibiotics. Hope your feeling better soon ! Try to rest and eat well.
We all have a wicked cough right now, and it's been around for weeks. Other than the cough and a bit of a runny nose we're ok, which makes it easier to take.
Lisa is right. A coworker's sons had frequent strep infections and her pediatrician told her to give them new toothbrushes about 4 days after she started the antibiotics and again at the end of the antibiotics at each infection. And yes, WASH YOUR HANDS, 20 times a day if necessary, and be vigilant about everyone else washing their hands.
And with bronchitis or any infection in or around the lungs, I think pockets of bacteria or viruses can hide in small pockets of the lungs and reassert themselves after you stop the first round of meds, which may be why a second round or a stronger antibiotic was needed. I know I have sometimes had to take two rounds of antibiotics for some infections, sometimes a few or several weeks apart for a recurring infection, and know of others in the same boat.
I was sick like that for a long time and I think it was because I did not slow down and give myself time to heal. I have to work. I missed five days of work and got called in for a long serious warning. The doctor even told me that if I didn't rest, I would not get better for a long time. I had strep throat on top of all the other "nasties" and she prescribed Vicadin to make me sleep and force me to rest. Unfortunately, Vicadin makes me nervous as a cat so I didn't take it. I just had to work sick for several weeks. I never did find out why I was sick for so long besides the stress making it worse.
