What Do Those In Cold States Keep the Thermostat at?
I was curious what you set your thermostat at. I keep mine at 72 during the day and 68 at night. I am always always always cold.
I don't know that I would be considered a "cold" state but I keep mine at 70 usually all the time in the winter, I am a very cold person, and since I have became pregnant, my feet are ALWAYS cold.
I don't think CA is cold either, but we keep ours near 70. If my dh gets his hands on it, it can go as high as 78 but I usually notice and bring it back down. My feet are cold, no matter what, so I never judge by that.
I live in Wyoming were it is normal to have way below zero temps. We normally keep ours around 70, sometimes I lower it if I'm gonna be bakeing cuz the oven heats up the house.
We usually keep it about 70-72. BTW, a humidifier can make a big difference in how cold you feel. Very dry air makes you feel colder...
I don't like the house hot. At night it goes down to 62-60 or I shut it off completely and open a bedroom window and during the day I keep it around 65.
We keep ours at about 68. If we feel chilled, I might kick it up to 70 for a bit and then turn it back down.
We have a humidifier hooked into our central heat system, and we keep the thermostat at 68-70. We have a programable thermostat but since I've been a SAHM we keep it set at the same temp most of the time. When we both worked FT we had it set to go down to 65 degrees during the day while we weren't home.
I keep mine at 68-70 Tunr it to 68 at night. I hate a hot house. I think it makes you feel sleepy if its to hot.
The same as Colette. We've been having it drop down to 60 at night, and 65 during the day. (And we're home during the day) When it gets really cold this Winter, I'll turn it up to 68-69.
Ours is usually set at 68 unless it extremely cold then it goes to 70..
I definitely live in a cold state. I can't stand a hot house. 68 during the day and 60 at night! 68 at night would be WAY too hot for us! I like bundling up with blankets and hubby! I think I would die in some of your houses. Even at 68, at my house, if I'm running around like a maniac, that is even too warm! If I have been down in my cold basement too long, though, then 68 probably isn't warm enough, though. Those are the nights that I have the quilt on, along with 2 blankets and the sheet!
I have a programable thermostat, so it adjusts during the day. I have it at 70 about an hour before we get up. It drops down to 68 about 2 hours later. It them goes up to 70 around 4:30, when it starts to get dark. I then drop it down to 66 at night. If it is really damp and cloudy, I sometimes bump it up to 70 during the day.
I LOVE a hot house in the winter, so hot actually that you just might find my children running around in their swim suits LOL. I keep it above 75. The girls rooms are in the basement and it is always cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter down there so the poor things are running fans and wearing their summer clothes.
I get the woodstove going so hot my neighbor calls and askes if it is tee shirt weather at my house. I have gotten it up so hot that my candles actually melted. I dont get it *that* hot anymore since I'm not pregnant, but I still like it really pretty warm in the living area probably around 75. The bedrooms are *cold* and I like them that way, they are probably 55-60, I will break out the space heaters if it gets colder than that
Yikes you hot house people! I would hate to see your winter heating bill lol
We don't like a hot house either. At night we don't use it at all. When we wake up the house is about 52 degrees. I turn it on to about 62 and then it's off for the day. There are times when we want it just a bit cozier so we up it to about 65. We all have sinus problems so a colder house is much more comfortable for us.
Mine is programmable also. I have hot water radiators, which take a while to come up to "heat", so my thermostat is set for 70 at 5:00 a.m. so I am warm getting out of the shower, goes back to 64 at 8 a.m. M-F, up to 68 at 4 p.m., and down to 64 at 10:30 p.m. Saturday/Sunday up to 68 at 7:00 a.m. and stays there until 11:00 p.m, then down to 65. I use an electric mattress pad in my bed so I am toasty warm at night. I really, REALLY hate being cold, so the first thing I do when I come home in cold weather is change into warm sweats and fuzzy socks.
We also have a programmable thermostat. I tend to keep the house colder. Im a very warm blooded person and Im always warm. Right now it goes to 68-69 before the first person gets out of bed in the morning and back down to 67-68 later in the day. Then it goes way down around 9:30 and even later it goes down more. usually 64-66. depends on weather outside.
I like to keep mine at around 73/74 in the winter because I get so cold. The only thing is, when I start cleaning the house, I burn up.
55-60. 65 if we are splurging.
75????? You have got to be kidding! That is WAY too hot for me! I would be sweating all the time, even in a t-shirt and shorts! 6am: target time for the furnace to have rewarmed our house to 68. Midnight: thermostat goes down to 60 for the night. Around 4:30am, furnace starts rewarming house. Sometimes this wakes me up! LOL! Not that the furnce is noisy, but it's a change! 6am: Nice and toasty again! When kids were little and DH and I worked more regular hours, we had it turn down to 60 again between 8am and 4pm. Some of these weeks, I worked nights, so I was sleeping anyway, during the day. So, I would come home from work to a cold house, but I usually just had something to eat and then went right to bed. The cold house actually got me to bed sooner, so I could warm up. Then the house was warm again by suppertime, for the evening. The problem was, when I had a day off and would forget that the temp went down! LOL! I would be freezing and have to go check the thermostat and bump the temperature up again! Once, since we have been living in this house, Gary thought since he was at work and kids were at school, he would bump the temp down for the day. He forgot about me. It was a cold day being outside for lunch recess at school and I was COLD! I was on the computer for a while and then came up to take a quick nap before the kids got home from school. The house was soooo cold that day. Even under all the covers on my bed, I still couldn't warm up! LOL! It FINALLY occurs to me to check the thermostat. It was at 64! No WONDER I was so cold! So, I bumped up the temp right away! Grrrrr! He has never done that again! DH works second shift and I work weird hours, so we really can't turn it down during the day at all!
69, unless I feel cold, then I raise it ti 72 Ame
68 during the day, 65 for the girls at night, dh likes our room at 62 or so. But-we use our woodstove in the winter so it can get pretty toasty in the family room-it has reached 80 a few times, but usually it is around 75. I like having one really toasty room in the house-it is great for when you come in from shoveling or when you just can't get warm, but I could never handle the whole house being so hot. Everyone in my family asks now if they should skip the turtlenecks and wool sweaters when they come to visit.
We keep it between 66 & 70 degrees.
So, if you keep your house in the 70's and it's too warm for sweatshirts and long pants, do you have to change clothes everytime you want to go outside? Between the dog, taking kids to and from school, my job, etc., I'm in and out all day long. I would hate to have to change clothes that much! I only rarely have a day when I don't have to go out, even in the winter!
Ours is also programmable. It's set to 68 from 6:30 am - 11pm, and it's down to 62 at night. When we get -40 temps, I sometimes turn it up a bit. Our home faces south, and we have lots of windows in the front of the house. There are many days that the heat is off more than on, because of the heat that shines in.
LOL, Dawn, who said it was too hot for sweatshirts and long pants?? Don't you wear long pants outside when it's seventy?? I do. I keep my house in the seventies and wear jeans and shirts and cardigans and slippers all day long inside. Sometimes I put TWO cardigans on over my shirt. I envy you! I WISH I could be warm in cooler temps!!
Nope, when it's 70's outside, we are in shorts! If my house was in the 70's, I would probably be in shorts! I know that even 69 is too warm for me! LOL! My computer is in the basement and once that furnace stops running at midnight, it gets cold down here! I do have a space heater near the computer, but the furnace running does make a difference. It's probably a good thing because I get cold and then I go to bed! Right now, it is 62 in the basement and I do have long pants on, but just a shirt and no sweatshirt. Sarah and I went to a play tonight (Sound of Music - high school musical!- excellent, too!) and then to the grocery store. When I got into the house, I was hot, so my sweatshirt came right off! I guess I'm pretty warm-blooded. My hands do get cold, but not that often!
I'm curious to those of you that have it so cold at night in your house. How do you make sure your kids stay warm? Mine never stay covered up, even when it is cooler in here. I would be up constantly making sure they were covered up and comfortable. We usually keep our thermostat at around 70-72, sometimes a little cooler at night. Like 69-70. But if anyone feels cold, we'll kick it up a notch so that it kicks on and warms us up. My dad kept the thermostat set at one temp, and we weren't absolutely NOT allowed to touch it. I remember always feeling cold and I hated it. So, now that it is MY house, I make sure everyone always feels comfortable. My sister is the same way.
My kids like it cool at night too, so no complaints. They all have warm pajamas and 2 of them end up with a cat on top of them at some point.
My kids are 12 and 15, so they keep themselves covered. Everyone has plenty of blankets and quilts to keep themselves warm. It's never been a problem. No one has ever complained.
I turn it down to 60 at night and keep it that way if I'm at work. If we're home, usually 65-66 and lots of fleece and warm clothing!! Even at these temperatures, you wouldn't believe how big my heating bill still is!!! Ridiculous!!!
