How to avoid "lard-o" feeling?
I hate eating lunch, but am always so starved that I can't go without it. Trouble is, I go home and fix your basic sandwich and chips, cookie or something after..then I return to work and feel pretty blobby and tired for the rest of the afternoon. What's a better lunch to eat that would give me more energy? Any ideas?
We grill up a bunch of boneless chicken breasts over the weekend to have for lunches during the week. Sliced on salad, in a wrap with lettuce, tomato and buffalo or bbq sauce, etc. Other lunches for energy lift are soy or whole wheat pita bread, carrot sticks and hummus, a soy smoothie is also quick and good, esp when it's hot out. Also drink tons of water, that helps with your energy level as well.
Def. stay away from the chips and cookies, they'll sap your energy. Make sure you eat a big breakfast (fibre will help you feel full longer), make sure you snack during the morning (cheese, nuts). Don't let yourself get to the point of starving in the first place. Don't skimp on lunch either, it doesn't need to be huge (esp. if you make sure you're having some healthy snacks) but it should be enough to carry you through. When I worked I'd usually pack a yogurt, apple or other fruit and sandwich or pasta. If you use coffee to pick yourself up try sipping one all day to get an even dose instead of drinking a bunch of cups. I've been trying this lately (on the advice of Prevention mag) and it's helped. And exercise a bit. It's amazing what a 15 minute walk can do. Amazing!
Tuna on 12-grain bread, or extra-lean Turkey on the same. You can add cheese, too, for dairy and protein.
Doctors say eating several small meals throughout the day is the best way to go for digestion, to avoid bingeing, to have energy throughout the day! Now, if I could put that into practice- I'd feel better I'm sure. It was easy to do when I worked in a Deli. LOL!
Thanks for the advice... I'll be going to the "real" grocery store this weekend, so I'll look for some of the things you've mentioned (our little local grocery has never heard of anything so exotic as pita bread, LOL)!
Eat just protein. No sweets or carbs. No bread. Nothing salty. Small amounts. Take a walk.
I like to make salads and add chicken breast to it.
I like the premixed and washed salad or spinich. Add some roasted chicken you made or picked up. Also a little slice of great cheese. (Carrot or apple are delicious with this.)
