Superbowl party ideas

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2008: Superbowl party ideas

I know this is so last minute. We are having a small superbowl party tonight. Dh is doing the cooking and has most of it ready to go. I am thinking we have to have a few more non-meat type things and I have no idea what to do for dessert - although one couple is bringing whoopie pies for the kids. We will have 7 - 8 adults and 7 kids.

So far the menu is..

grilled chicken wings - some kind of oriental marinade on these.

steak skewers - not sure what kind of marinade he is doing

shrimp cocktail

scallop cakes - I hope

spring rolls

veg. platter and toasted pita w/hummus, tapanade, spinach dip and baba ghanoush.

maybe a fruit platter w/dip

I think you've got it pretty well covered - you have a number of things that are non-meat. As far as dessert, with all the above, I'd do something really simple - pie or cake or brownies or ice cream. *Possibly*, no one will even eat dessert after all the yummy food you are serving!

I would put out some simple chips and pretzels too. I always love my chips during a big game.

Yeah, you need chips.

Definitely need chips or chex mix! :)
Here's what we're having for our sweet this evening. It takes 5 minutes to make and I haven't met anyone who doesn't LOVE it! It doesn't set out because it's ice cream, but it is YUMMY!

Ice Cream Sandwich Dessert
1 box (12) ice cream sandwiches
1 bowl thawed cool whip
1 box whoppers (the carton size)
Candy bar (optional)

Crush whoppers in pieces. Stir into the bowl of cool whip very well. Layer the bottom of 9x13 pan with ice cream sandwiches. You will have to cut one in half to complete the bottom. (You'll have a few sandwiches left over for a rainy day!) Spread the cool whip mixture over the top completely. Optional: Shred a chocolate bar over the top for decoration. Freeze and enjoy!

That sounds good.

I don't even know who is play in the super bowl, and don't really care, but we will probably watch because....well it's the Super Bowl and we dont' want to be the only ones NOT watching. We got ourselves some chips and salsa, and beer so we are set.

:)

Ok - there were NO potato chips left at the store yesterday morning! But we ended up with tons of food so it was all good, except that we lost of course and then this morning my neighbor called to tell me her dd (who was here) came down with the flu at about 3am this morning...so that should be hitting us any day now.

We got together with another family to watch the game. My friend, her husband and her youngest daughter. My hubby, me, and our younger daughter. They got Papa Murphy's pizza, one for each family group, since we like different toppings and then we split a dessert pizza. We offered to pay up our share of the food, but they'd had a special, so they said to forget it.

I'd have like to make a treat, but we'd spent the previous hours before the game, taking Sarah back to college, so I didn't have any time.
