Kerry speech

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2004: Kerry speech
By Colette on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 10:19 am:

fyi - most Boston area stations are saying Kerry will be speaking around 1p.

By Vicki on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 10:52 am:

hmmm... I haven't heard that yet. I have been hearing that they are still deciding what they are going to do!! I did hear that Bush has decided to speak and was going to do it this morning, but decided to give Kerry some time to conceed first.

By Colette on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 11:13 am:

He has just conceded.

By Palmbchprincess on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 11:26 am:

This is horrible, IMO. We just watched the breaking news on CNN, and I think Kerry gave up without a fight, which disappoints me.

By Boxzgrl on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 11:29 am:

:) I really didn't have much of a doubt about Bush winning since about 9 pm before bed. Another 4 years... yay! :)

By Vicki on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 11:35 am:

I just heard it on TV too! I am glad he isn't fighting it. I think it is a very smart move. Whew.. it is finally OVER!!

By Cat on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 11:37 am:

AP-Bush Wins Race as Kerry Concedes

From Reuters,"Kerry is expected to make a statement at 1 p.m. EST and an administration official said Bush would have a statement at 3 p.m."

By Emily7 on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 12:13 pm:

I think that Kerry conceding speaks to what great character he has. Rather than putting the country in limbo for days or even weeks he has chosen to concede.
I hope the right choice was made for our country & I think it is time to support our President & our country.
Wonder who will be running for 2008.

By Kaye on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 12:23 pm:

I have to say that I agree it shows GREAT character. I wonder if kerry supporters agree? We should do a poll!

By Boxzgrl on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 12:26 pm:

I guess I can agree that I thank Kerry very much for not putting us through the chaos of the 2000 election. Who knows, maybe he'll run in 2008? Can he? I don't know, i'm new to this politics stuff :) Anyways, i'm happy of the results and I hope Bush can show a bit of improvement where needed and show us every bit of *president* that he has in him. I have good hope in him.

By Happynerdmom on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 12:36 pm:

I agree that he is handling it well, but believe me, if he thought he had a chance to win, he wouldn't give up. He just knows there is NO WAY that the provisional votes here in Ohio will do it. Almost all of them would have to be valid, (HIGHLY unlikely) and then almost all of those would have to be for Kerry, which is even MORE unlikely.

By Janet on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 12:46 pm:

2008? Hillary...you watch!
Also, even though I'm a Bush fan, I am very impressed by Kerry's decision to concede. Any further fighting--especially when the race is over--would rip the country apart. Thank goodness he has the character to admit defeat gracefully!

By Boxzgrl on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 12:47 pm:

LOL Janet!! First Woman President! I dunno, if she ran that would be very scary, I don't want this country in her hands!

By Cat on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 01:03 pm:

I can see Kerry running again, and I can see Hilary running, but not winning (I really don't think America is ready for a woman president--not my personal view, but America as a whole). I can see Schwarzenegger running if they change the law like they're trying to. I guees we have four years to think about it, although who ever's going to run doesn't. :)

By Rayanne on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 01:04 pm:

I'm glad that Bush won:).

By Vicki on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 01:07 pm:

Oh boy...Hillary, now there is a thought!! Yikes.

By Colette on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 01:29 pm:

Scary thought!

By Kaye on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 01:33 pm:

I can see Hillary running, but really do we want Mr clinton back in the white house? The first gentlemen...LOL. He did some great things as pres, but also did some not so great things, I think it is hard to forget those. Maybe hillary as VP?

By Jtsmom on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 02:05 pm:

I think that Rudy Giuliani (sp???) would be a great choice for our country in 2008. Although I know nothing about politics, I just like his character. Yeah for Bush!!

By Colette on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 02:08 pm:

Very graceful concession speech.

By Emily7 on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 02:12 pm:

I am watching it now, it was very heart felt & warming.

By Rayanne on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 02:14 pm:

I agree with you Joelle.

By Cat on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 02:59 pm:

He really did a great job with the speech. It's never easy to lose.

By Kathym on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 03:58 pm:

Can't stand Giuliani and I like Bush even less. However, the democratic process worked and the people have spoken. I hope America is happy with their choice.

By Amyj on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 04:00 pm:

I am so glad the commercials are over! My 4 year old has been going around saying, "Hello, I'm George Bush. Hello, I'm John Kerry and I approve of this message"!

By Emily7 on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 04:41 pm:

LOL Amy...hopefully your 4 year old will quit doing that soon.

By Vicki on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 06:24 pm:

LOL Amy.. I think I would have to scream at that!!

By Andi on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 06:45 pm:

Hillary can't do any worse than Bush...JMO. :)

I too am glad all the commercials, mailings and phone calls are done and over with.

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 08:59 pm:

Amyj, that's too cute!

I am glad all the commercial are over and mailing too.

By Imamommyx4 on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 09:22 pm:

I'm happy with the results. I'm proud of Kerry for doing the right thing.
But most of all I'm glad it is over for awhile!!!

By My2cuties on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 11:06 pm:

Thank God Bush is in again. :)

By Juli4 on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 09:16 am:

I am also glad that bush is in again. they are probably setting hillary to run in 08, but I won't vote for her and she probably won't get elected.

By Rayanne on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 09:34 am:

I don't want Hillary in charge of our country. If people think that we have problems now...just wait. If she gets elected....we will need help.

By Sunny on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 09:42 am:

Well...I would vote for Hillary if she ran. I'd like to see her on the ballot as the vice-presidential candidate in 2008. I'm not sure why her being elected is such a scary thought???

As for this election, I am very disappointed that Kerry lost. I am also disappointed that we will have a Republican President and a Republican Senate. I would much rather have seen more of a balance. I missed Kerry's speech, but saw a portion of Bush's speech and I really hope he can unite this country like he says he wants to. I'm just not convinced he can.

By Happynerdmom on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 09:53 am:

You can see the videos of both speeches at cnn.com.

By Kate on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 10:02 am:

I would loooove to see Hillary run, PROVIDED she LEFT the senate in order to campaign, and then LOST the election. Hillary is MY senator and I don't like her one bit, so I'd really like to see her disappear entirely.

I'm excited to see what Bush can accomplish with the Republican house and senate. Of course, I am a die hard Republican, hence my love of Bush and dislike of Hillary.

By Amy~moderator on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 10:56 am:

I am extremely happy about the results. I have taken so much time to educate myself this election about the issues, each candidate's stand on the issues, etc. I also voted for the first time this election. I read articles, watched news reports for hours and hours each week. Not a day passed by that I didn't educate myself just a little about this election. So, I can actually say that I confidently voted for George W. Bush - because I honestly felt he was the best choice for president.

And Hillary Clinton - LOL - would NEVER receive my vote.

By Lauram on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 11:31 am:

I agree that Kerry showed good character by conceding. I didn't get to see the speech because I was at work and then had class. Had it dragged on, I think it would have sent our economy into yet another tailspin. I'm VERY disappointed that Bush won- and quite frightened for the future of our country and the state of the world to be quite honest. And I would definitely vote for Hillary should she run. If she were against Gulianni (sp?) I would have a tough time choosing however!

By Colette on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 11:38 am:

I am thinking it's going to be Obama or Hillary and Gulianni or Mitt.

By Palmbchprincess on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 12:08 pm:

Laura, I would vote for Hillary, though I don't think the country is "ready" for a female president. Giuliani is one of the few Republicans I would EVER vote for, and I would be much happier to welcome him into office than ANY Bush. It's going to be a sad state of affairs for our country for the next 4 years, and I wonder how many people will be still praising Bush by the time it's all over.
