Need ideas--cooking experiment

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2004: Need ideas--cooking experiment
By Cat on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 12:25 pm:

Since there's no school today and I've got my two boys and another 1st grade boy ALL day, I decided to do a little experiment with them. This morning for snack I made quesideas (just cheese--got some picky kids) and cinnamon chips (tortilla chips, lightly coated with water, sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on them, cut and bake). The boys really liked these and were suprised they were tortillas, like the quesideas. SO, I have some more flour tortillas left and we're going to make other flavored chips. We've already got a few kinds on our list, but were wondering if you all could come up with some more. We've got parmesan, garlic butter, chocolate (don't know about that one!) and plain salt. Any other ideas??? Randy voted for ice cream, but that got veto-ed pretty quickly! lol We're going to do this for afternoon snack, so we've got about 4 1/2 hours to figure these out. TIA :)

How about staying in the holiday spirit and using pumpkin pie spice and sugar?

Staying??? I'm not there yet! lol Good idea, though. They might like that. Thanx! :)

I like spicey so how about some cayanne pepper?

By Jujubee on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 01:48 pm:

Spicy, cheesy....sprinkle with chili powder and Parmesan cheese (the powdered kind like you use for spaghetti.

What about sprinkling with powdered apple cider mix and having apple cinnamon? Or brush with tomato sauce and adding mozzarella cheese for pizza flavored?

By Cat on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 01:57 pm:

Hey! You gals have some good ideas! I knew you would. :) I like the apple cider mix one! The pizza sounds good, too. Actually, we sometimes make tortilla pizzas (with taco meat on them--Mexican pizza!). I don't know about the spicy ones. I might like them, but these kids are kind of bland kids. Most of them don't even like pepperoni on their pizza because it's too spicy! Kinda boring, but they're just kids. Keep the ideas coming! :)

As a kid I use to like to fry a flour tortilla and then put peanut butter on it. It was soooooooooo good.

Lol, Conni! Thanx for the info.

Here are our results. :) I'll list what we made, how many and how many liked them (in that order).

Parmesan-4-1
Garlic Salt-3-2 (accidentally dropped one!)
Salt-4-4
Chocolate-4-4 (used powdered Nesquik)
Apple Cider mix w/cinnamon-4-1
Pizza Sauce w/parmesan-4-0 (said they were "okay")
Peanut Butter-4-4
Pumpkin Pie Spice w/sugar-4-1

So their favorites were the chocolate and the peanut butter. I thought the garlic ones were good, and I didn't get to try the chocolate. So there was our experiment for the day. :) Thanx for all the input!

Time to go clean up... :)
