Speaking of Halloween.....

What do you give out to the Halloweeners that come to you house and how many kids do you usually get??
I make up the halloween bags filled with candy, I have made up 80 this year and am hoping its enough. Last year I gave out 74 last year.

I got a big bag of assorted chocolate candies (snack size kit kats, almond joys, m-n-m's, etc) from Sam's Club and I also got a big bag of smarties and sprees from the commissary. I'll give each kid one of each. I did make special treat bags for my daycare kids that have a few pieces of candy, pumpkin wistle straws from the dollar store and a paper Halloween place mat with activities on it (word search, maze, word scramble--for the older ones). We have so many people in our area, there's no way I could make treat bags for everyone. We'll probably have well over 100 kids this year. It will depend on how many houses on our street have lights on (the kids skip streets without many lights).

There are between 2 and 5 acres that seperate each house on our road (and the other neighborhoods in our area are pretty much the same) so we do not get too many kids. There is a sort of parade float that carries kids around so we always get a big load of kids (about 20)at once. I guess the most we have ever had here is about 40-45? One year when it was really cold we probably only saw 30 kids. I usually have an assortment of candy (sweet stuff, chocolate stuff) and give about 3 pieces to each kid.

This year they each get a mini bag of Halloween microwave popcorn and a full sized KitKat bar. I also have a couple of smaller bags of candy in case I run out. Every year we get more and more kids, but not near as many as I am used to. I would say we should get around 40 this year. The first year we moved here (new development) I had only 1 child come!! The people at dh's office loved me that year. LOL All me left overs went into work!!

We don't get any trick-or-treaters as the roads are very dark (no street lights) and the houses are all too far apart. We usually take the kids down to one of the towns to trick-or-treat at the businesses.

I live in a msater planned subdivision, read that as LOTS of kids. We were not here last year, but from asking around we average about 250 kids, so they only get a piece or two of candy. Also when my kids go out I will recycle candy if we get low :) With three kids and the places they go we get SOO much candy. I can only get one kid to stop early, the bigger two want to see everyone's house.

Also as a word of advice...look up your area sex offenders before the night. Halloween is one of the big times they go astray. In houston the cops go door to door of registered offenders to check if they have decorations out.

We have 40 houses on our street, and each lot is 1-2 acres. We get about 40-50 kids. This year I bought Tootsie Pops and large Tootsie Rolls. I don't bother to make up bags. Too much work! LOL!

Two of our neighbors are dentists, and they live next door to each other. Along with candy, one gives out toothpaste samples and the other gives out toothbrushes.

By Emily7 on Friday, October 29, 2004 - 11:49 am:

I just buy a huge amount of assorted candy.

By Tink on Friday, October 29, 2004 - 11:54 am:

We don't get a huge amount of children so I buy a couple of bags of mixed fun-sized candy bars and hand out two of those per child. We take our kids to an older upscale neighborhood and several of the women make up bags for their "regulars." My dks love seeing the same people each year and the older couples love to see my kids grow up.

By Rayanne on Friday, October 29, 2004 - 11:54 am:

We have assorted chocolates and other candy and gum.

We are new to our neighborhood, so I asked our neighbors about "trick-or-treaters"...apparently we can expect to have over 300...so far I have put together about 120 little treat bags with 3 candies in each bag...I should get working on these!!!
Happy Halloween Everyone!

we don`t get any kids at our house. We are in the country.Though,I still do buy candy (just in case).Usually chocolate .

By Unschoolmom on Friday, October 29, 2004 - 05:06 pm:

We have about 20 or so. I was thinking about making cupcakes or brownies but I'm too lazy. I know people get paranoid about homebaked stuff but where we live, out in the country, everyone knows who you are and homemade treats are still passed out (granted, they carry labels with the name and address of the house they came from). I do love having so little kids becase you can spend more money and time on the treat bags. Some of the older kids go to the subdivisions but I'm not sure that tactic works so well. Here you might get a juice box, treat bag and bag of chips from one house. In a subdivision you're lucky to get more then one mini bar or sucker.

We live in a neighborhood full of kids surrounded by farm country. So we get tons of kids, probably 200.
I usually give out 2 or 3 pieces per kid. I enjoy seeing them every year as they grow. I love giving out the candy. And when the boys were little, they would go thru their candy and sort out what they would never eat and we give that out too.
