Flumist question-?
My 2 older kids had the flumist(the thing up their nose)on Tuesday. The dr recommended for them as Faith is too young to have a Flushot, and thought my older kids may bring something home..so I got the older kids the flumist Well last night my 5 yr old started to get sick, fever, slight sore throat, headache? Could this be a reaction from the flumist? The flumist is a live vaccine.. Im heading to the dr today, as I think baby Faith has a blocked tear duct. First thought it was pink eye, but the stuff coming out of her eye is clear, and goopy..so we will see what the day brings.
"What side effects are associated with the nasal-spray flu vaccine (LAIV)? In children, side effects can include runny nose, headache, vomiting, muscle aches, and fever. In adults, side effects can include runny nose, headache, sore throat, and cough. Fever is not a common side effect in adults receiving the nasal-spray flu vaccine. " I've also read that children under 5 and adults over 50 shouldn't take it. Then, conflicting info says children under 18 months and *older* adults shouldn't take it IF they are taking aspirin therapy. Sounds like your 5 y/o is having a typical reaction to the vaccine. However, I'd call my ped. *just to be sure*....
