Sports Injury
ds thinks he is a sports superstar, LOL! He plays short stop and was (as usual) going all out to make the play. He lost his footing and jammed his shoulder into the ground. He got up and thought that he was just stunned by the fall. He tried to bat and felt a huge crack and an awful pain. DH took him to the ER but they said 6 hr wait, so they left. I took him to the Dr. yesterday a.m. Had to go get Xrays which were done poorly and took 1/2 the day. I had to take him to work with me because I am so far behind from going on vacation. He loved that, NOT! I had to go pick up the Xray because they called my Dr. and told him everything looked fine and he could not believe it because there was alot of swelling and his shoulder was all jacked up. Spent the whole morning back at the Dr. He sent us to a shoulder specialist who did new Xrays and determined that he has a broken collar bone. He has to take it easy for 3 weeks and then they will re-examine the other tissue around his shoulder. They said it would be excrutiating to do any tests until the swelling goes down and the bone heals. He is handling it like a trooper, though.
Ouch. My nephew broke his collar bone over the summer. The poor kid was banned from dirt biking (which is what he lives for) until it healed. I wish your ds a speedy recovery.
Ouch poor thing...Hope it heals quickly.
Hope he is on the road to recovery very quickly. I know what the sports injuries are like my oldest DS plays soccer and has had many injuries in the past 13 years.
Hope it heals quickly
My middle son broke his collar bone. They put him in a figure 8 harness (loops of the 8 in front of the shoulder, cross of the 8 behind) for about 5 weeks, and he healed nicely. It also did wonders for his posture, which had been terrible before. (He did it running across the school playground.)
Thank you for the well wishes They did not give him a harness or anything because I think that it is a small fracture. He is using a sling because it is more comfortable for him to hold his arm in that position but it gets tired when he holds it up himself.
Bummer!! My 7 year old broke his about 1.5 months ago. Within three weeks he was wake boarding and back in gymnastics. There is still a bump on his collar bone, but it doesn't bother him at all now. The first few days were really rough. The poor kid just could not get comfortable, especially sleeping. But once he started to feel better, he got better very quickly. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!!
