Any cube steak recipes?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2004: Any cube steak recipes?
By Kolbysmom on Thursday, October 21, 2004 - 11:35 am:

I sent DH to the store before he left for work. I told him to pick out some sort of meat for dinner, and this is what he got. Anyone have any easy recipes for cube steak? Normally I would just fry it and simmer in some sort of liquid. I want to try something new. TIA.

I have made them by
sprinkling a little garlic salt on them
then frying them in a skillet and making a couple
packs of instant gravy and pouring it over them.
oh yea I pour a little bit of worcestershire sauce
when I am frying them.

If you like/have blue cheese, brown the cube steaks in a pan, salting and peppering. Put some blue cheese and chopped red onion on top of each, then broil to melt cheese.

With cheaper cuts of steak (like breakfast or cube steak) I like to cut it up into chunks and mix it together in a casserole dish with a couple of jars of picante sauce and some brown sugar to cut the tartness. Cover with foil and put it in the oven at 300 for about 3 hours. The picante sauce will tenderize it and it tastes terrific over minute rice!

You can also bread them & serve them with brown gravy.

Pineayed Meat:
Cube steak
1 egg
2 tbsp water
italian bread crumbs
1 tbsp garlic powder
butter

Whip egg & water together in a bowl
Put bread crumbs in another bowl
Coat meat
Put butter in frying pan & melt
Add garlic powder

Fry meat over a medium fire 5-10 min on each side until dark brown. Dry on paper towels.

Amy, I hope you don't mind me posting your recipe!!!

I would probably just fry it with some salt/pepper/garlic. Then mix some cream of mushroom with some milk and heat that in the microwave. Arrange the meat nicely on a plate and pour the soup mixture over the top.

I flour mine and fry it then put it in a pot with mushroom gravy and simmer it until it is all done then we have mashed potatoes with the gravy on the potatos.

Oh boy does this sound good thanks for the idea.

Since we don't do much frying, I take my cube steak, cut into strips, sprinkle with Adolph's meat tenderizer and Worcestershire sauce - I put them on a rack and bake them for about 15 minutes per side (I flip them after 15 minutes). In the meantime, I make a simple gravy in a pan, then when the meat is done, I place the meat in the gravy pan.

We usually will have rice as a side dish to this and a vegetable.

I have made salisbury steak out of cube steak before. Sprinkle both sides of the meat with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder - basically, whatever seasonings you like and place in a baking dish (I use a 9x13). Then take brown gravy mix and mix it with water according to directions, add canned mushrooms and dried onion and pour over the top of the meat. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30-40 minutes or until done. Serve with mashed potatoes and whatever veggie you like.

We fry the cube steak with salt and pepper, make breakfast gravy and biscuits, and cut up the steak and mix it in the gravy, and eat it over the biscuits. We love it like this!
