I'm finally going to resign from the PTO...
I've talked about it for months now. I realized today that it needs to go. My volunteer time is limited this year, and I want to spend all of it in my kids classrooms rather than in PTO meetings. My question is.....how do I resign? Should I write up a nice little letter and send it to the school? Do I just call up the PTO president and tell her? What would you do? I really don't like confrontation because I tend to cave in and do something I don't want to. (like staying in PTO) I would be perfectly happy writing a small letter and dropping it in the mail. But, that sounds pretty heartless. How would you do it?
I like things in triplicate. LOL I'd write a letter of resignation, but I'd hand deliver it to the president.
Are you serving as an officer in the PTO? In the various school systems in which we've been involved - both PTA and PTO - you could be a member, but chose what time was given. I went from being on the executive board of a PTA to simply a parent member of our PTO.
I'm actually the president elect. In line to be president next year. I don't mind paying the fee and being on the general calling list. I just don't want the title and all the responsibilities that go with it. We tend to have meaningless meetings. We spend hours doing basically nothing. I just don't have time for it. And, there are a couple of PTO people that give me stress (to put it nicely) and I would like to get away from them as well My goodness, I sound harsh tonight. I'm really not.
How often do you meet? The PTO at my ds' school only meets once a month, and I go to every one of them. They stick to a time of 1-1/2 hours, and if there is nothing left on the agenda to discuss, they adjourn early. I know where you are coming from, tho, as far as constraints on your time.
We have our regular meeting once a month. It lasts about 2-2.5 hours. Then, if there is even the slightest event that we are going to do, we meet again a couple of times to discuss that. We end up meeting about 3 or 4 times a month. When preparing for teacher apprec. week we meet every day for a couple of hours to work on "things". I'm just tired of it. I wrote up a little letter this morning. I *am* going to drop it off to the president today. I already feel the relief coming!
