Rootbeer/dry ice (halloween)
I was asked to furnish some "smoking rootbeer" for my DD's class party next week. I haven't ever used dry ice in rootbeer before. I am going to get a cauldron (sp) to put it in. Do I just put the dry ice in the bottom of the bowl and poor the rootbeer over it? Is that how it works? I know dry ice burns if you touch it.
Yes, I think that is what you would do. Ask the store where you buy it, they would know.
I'd be afraid that the root beer would pick up a taste, or boil over. I make my smoking cauldron by placing the ice in a small bowl of warm water under the candy bowl. The candy gets cold but not frozen, and the smoke curls out of the pot nicely.
Well, first, I have to figure out where I can buy it LOL. I wondered about the taste also. But the lady that called and assigned me this project said that's how she was told to do it. She said she would check into it more as well.
They sell it at our supermarkets this time of year, Robin. I don't know if you have Food Lion near you.
We have a local ice company that we buy it from. Can you put the dry ice and some water in a tall glass or vase that is almost as tall as the sides of the cauldron and pour the root beer around it?
That's a good idea Tink. I think I have a vase that will fit nicely. Hmmmm... We don't have a Food Lion, but I did discover that Wal-Mart has dry ice It's sold in the customer service department. Thanks girls
Smoking Cauldron I did a search for "smoking cauldron rootbeer dry ice" and found this "recipe" on the Martha Stewart site. If I understand correctly, use a large bowl, add dry ice, then add water, make sure dry ice is IN the water. Then add a second bowl that you actually fill with rootbeer! It sounds rather neat!
Thanks Dawn!!
Good ol' Martha! ;)
