Elizabethan collar on cat
My mother's cat was attacked the other day by another animal. The wound is so bad that he needs to wear and elizabethan collar for the next 3 weeks. I saw the poor thing today, he keeps pacing backwards, hitting the collar on the wall and then he freezes thinking he's stuck, my mother has to spoon feed him both food and water because the collar prevents him from getting to the bowl. He can't even manage to get into the litter box and she has to pick him up and put him in it. She has also been told he needs to be kept quarrantined for at least 6 months because his rabies shot is due to expire this month. Any suggestions on how she can make the collar easier on him? Or how to help him or my mother with the whole quarrantine thing?
The collar should fit long enough to where the cat can't get to the wound yet short enough for him to be able to eat/drink. Maybe she should call the vet to make sure he has he right size. If she can use something like a top to a shoe box or something shorter than the litter box the cat should be able to get into it easier. It will definitely take a few days to adjust but believe me, they do get used to it. I've had way too many cats in those things. Good luck! Thats all I can think of as far as advice.
