Has anyone ever had a breast cyst removed or asperated?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2004: Has anyone ever had a breast cyst removed or asperated?

I have to go to a surgeon on Tuesday
about this cyst. Was wondering if anyone here
has ever had one and what to expect. Thanks!

I have severely fibrocystic breasts, and have had several lumpectomies. These were not for malignancies, but to remove lumps for biopsies. I had regular surgery for these. I had stitches and an overnight stay. I couldn't drive for a few days afterwards.

I've also had an aspiration. That is simply a needle stuck into the cyst to pull some fluid for a biopsy. They numb the area, and it's not painful.

I found a lump several years ago (1989). During the exam the doctor found another. He aspirated one (sample taken by a needle poke) and although the results were negative, he still wanted to remove both lumps. For me it was day surgery as an out patient. I wasn't put under but was given something to take the edge off. Had it done on Friday and returned to work on Monday. I remember being sore for several days afterward. Both lumps turned out to be benign tumors. I have successfully breast fed two kids since.

I have had surgery twice to remove lumps. Luckily they were all binine(SP?). It wasn't that bad. I thought that it would be much worse than it was. The worst part for me was the darn tape that they make you wear over your bb after the surgery is done. That was very unconfortable. Good luck, you will be fine. Keep us posted with everything sweetie.

I had a lump removed several years ago - it turned out to be a fatty cell cyst. Personally, unless the doctor recommends aspiration, I would go for surgery, as a cyst which fills up once may do it again. And when it is done for biopsy it doesn't always get enough material to make a biopsy really definitive.

It was outpatient surgery at a major hospital. I arrived at 8:00 a.m., was out by 1:00 p.m. It was pretty much a local anesthesia. The surgeon asked me if I wanted the mirror adjusted so I could watch, to which I said NO THANKS!. I went home with an ice pack in my bra, and used an ice pack for the rest of the day. I stayed home the next day and went back to work the day after.

The surgeon went right along the edge of the nipple. When I go for a mammogram and they ask if I ever had breast surgery I tell them yes and show them the spot, and they can't believe it because they can't see any scar.

I had a lump aspirated in radiology. The radiologist did it. They tried to freeze the area, but it hurt anyway. Fortunately, it came back negative.

this now.

I had an aspiration done a few years ago and it was very simple! It hasn't filled back up and it has been about 7 years ago. I don't think they even numbed the area. They asked if needles bothered me and I said no. It was done in a matter of minutes. No sweat!

I had an aspiration done.It was no problem.Like the others said , they numb it then the fluid is taken out and they do a biopsy on the fluid.
Mine was fine , it did fill back up but has caused no problems.
I get a mamogram once a year because of breast cancer history in my Mothers family.
Good luck on Tuesday Trisa and let us know how it goes. Sue
