Bought a new...
...microwave this morning. We kind of had to since when we went to make popcorn last night the old one started making really funny noises, smelling really bad and smoking! What's bad is it was only 2yo!!! So we got online last night and started looking at stores like Sam's Club, Best Buy, etc and checking out new ones. Then we looked at some reviews and it turns out the one we had (GE) had REALLY bad reviews. So now we have a Samsung, black with stainless trim (old one was all black). I'm SO glad I didn't tell Robin to make the popcorn himself. Dh and I were downstairs watching tv and he wanted it and I came so close to just saying, "Go make it yourself" and letting him do it. I never would have thought the stupid thing could have started fire on him! I don't think he would have known to stop it--he'd have probably just yelled down the stairs to us that it was sounding and smelling bad. Anyway, with that and new tires for dh's Durango (had one that was seperating), we spent a pretty penny this morning. We're going to a bbq this evening so at least dinner will be free!
That sounds scary!!! Glad nothing worse happened. Your new micro. sounds really nice!! I can feel your pain on the purchase of the new tires. lol! Dh took me to get new tires Thursday night on the van.
PS, how was the BBQ?
We had a GE microwave-less than 2 years and it started turning on all by itself-freaked me out a few times. We just bought a Samsung, too-but ours is all black.
lol fraggle, that is freakie We also have a black Samsung, I really like it. But I'm not much of a microwave user.
I have a bisque Sharp microwave that I just love. We did have to replace a switch a while back, but it wasn't too expensive. We got it in 1999. Oh forgot two things I do with my microwave, in the other thread: defrosting chicken and ground beef!
I have a Kenmore, we bought it 2 years ago when my Okeefe & Merritt one finally died. It was the ONLY one I had ever owned, got it in the '80's, and it was HUGE and UGLY. I figure I had I certainly gotten my money's worth out of it.
I bought my first microwave in 1984 with my first tax refund with my first nursing job! LOL! That Litton lasted 15 years before the roof section just fell off! Then I got my Sharp!
Conni, the bbq was really nice. It was with co-workers of dh. One I had met before (and his wife and son) but I didn't know the rest of the people (three other families). The kids had a blast playing with the other kids there, too. It was relaxing! Guess we're not the only ones to have trouble with a GE. I can't imagine it turning itself on! That would have freaked me out, too!
We have had our GE for 4 years now, but it still works perfectly. I hope it doesn't start giving us problems.
