Got mammogram results today and they found a lump

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2004: Got mammogram results today and they found a lump
By Trisa on Friday, October 8, 2004 - 04:18 pm:

My mother is on her way here for her visit and
I dread telling her the news. Breast cancer is in
our family. I had the mammogram done yesterday
and this morning they called and told me they found a lump in my left breast. They even wanted me to come in right away to have a diognostic
( sp?) mammogram but I was not able to go today so I go in Monday morning at 11:00. Please be thinking of me. I am only 34 and had to have one done early since its in the family. Im a bit scared but I also hopeful its just a cyst or something. Thanks for your support!

((((Trisa))))
I'll be thinking about you. Please let us know what happens. Remember, many lumps are not cancer, it may be nothing to worry about!!!

(((Trisa))) Let us know as soon as you can. I'll be thinking of you on Monday.

Sorry to hear about this, but just keep being positive, it may not be anything to worry about. Just relax and have a good weekend.

I will be thinking of you as well.
Please let us know as soon as you can.
Crystal is right...finding a lump does not mean cancer.

By Trina~moderator on Friday, October 8, 2004 - 04:42 pm:

More {{{HUGS}}} Trisa. I agree with Crystal. It may not be anything to be concerned about, but I *know* it's hard to think positive. I had two benign breast tumors removed several years ago. You'll be in my prayers. Please keep us posted.

I will be thinking about you on Monday. Try to enjoy your weekend-I know you were looking forward to it.

By Karen~moderator on Friday, October 8, 2004 - 08:22 pm:

Trisa, try not to lose it over this *yet*. I know how scary it is to hear they found something, but it could very well be *nothing*. Last year I went through that. I had to go back for a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound. Turns out it was fibrocystic breast tissue. This year, my doc skipped the screening mammo and went straight to the diagnostic and u/s. He said that once you've had an *abnormal* one that turns out to be something like I had, you pretty much will get the same results and have to have the diagnostic and u/s anyway.

I know how frightened you are, but try not to panic until you know something for sure. Believe me, I'm not trying to minimize what you are feeling! I just hate to see you become a wreck over it until you know what you're dealing with.

Lean on your mom, that's what mom's are for!!! I'll be thinking of you on Monday, let us know how it goes.

(((HUGS))) Keep your hopes up. After all, 80% of breast lumps *are* benign so the odds are with you. Keep thinking positive!

By Jelygu on Friday, October 8, 2004 - 10:06 pm:

You will be in my thoughts!

By Kernkate on Saturday, October 9, 2004 - 12:16 pm:

{{{Trisa}}} Thoughts and Prayers are with you.
Will be thinking of you on Monday. Enjoy the rest of your weekend with your mom. Did you go on your buggy ride???

By Tink on Monday, October 11, 2004 - 11:25 pm:

Trisa, how did everything go? When will you know anything? I'll be praying until we hear from you.

How did everything go yesterday ?

(((((TRISA)))))

I've had lumps removed 2 times and each time everything was fine. Infact, I have 8 inside of me right now. I hope that everything goes well. Please keep us updated sweetie.

I will be thinking about you and praying that the lump is just nothing to worry about (((hugs)))

By Kernkate on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 11:14 am:

I was also wondering how Trisa did yesterday????

By Trisa on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 04:43 pm:

Sorry. I tried to post this twice
today and I got bumped off line both times!
First of all I want to say thank you to all of
you for your thoughts and prayers. It was so kind of you and really means alot to me. Yesterday went
well. After I had the mammogram they had to do a
breast ultrasound to see the lump better. They told me its a very large cyst. Good news!
They said usually they do not turn into cancer.
They are painful. I just thought my left breast was hurting all the time due to my messed up thyroid! It was still scary for me. My aunt has breast cancer right now and two great aunts died of breast cancer. If I keep having the pain in it I will have to have it drained or removed. Thanks again for all your kind words!! ((( HUGS ))) Trisa

By Palmbchprincess on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 09:41 pm:

Great news Trisa!! I'm glad it was nothing serious!!

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 09:47 pm:

Trisa, that's wonderful news! I know you must be SO relieved. My left one hurts a lot of the time - that's the one that had the abnormal mammo. I have fibrocystic breast disease, which, as I found out last year, runs in families. My sister has it too and has had several abnormal mammos.

Did your doc suggest removing or draining the cyst? If it causes you enough pain, I think I'd consider it.

Don't be alarmed if, next year, you get the same results. I wonder if your doc will do like mine did, and skip the screening, and do a diagnostic and U/S?

Great news though, I'm really happy for you!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 09:58 pm:

My mom and both my sister have fibrocystic breast tissue also. My sister is only 26.

Glad it all turned out okay...

By Bobbie~moderatr on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 09:59 pm:

that is my sister not both my sister. Jesh..

By Tklinreston on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 10:04 pm:

I'm so glad to hear the news. It must be a huge burden lifted off your shoulders. I'll be 37 in January and have never had a mammogram done. You've inspired me to get one done asap. Thanks.

By Rayanne on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 - 09:13 am:

Great news!!!!!

By Andi on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 - 09:16 am:

By Mommyathome on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 - 10:36 am:

I'm so glad you received good news! What a relief.

By Emily7 on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 - 11:30 am:

That is great news.
