Armpit stains?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2004: Armpit stains?

What a title, huh? LOL But my teen dd's white t-shirts all have yellow armpits. Anyone know of a way to get them at least a little bit whiter? I put some bleach pen on one, and it didn't seem to do any good. TIA

By Mrse on Monday, October 4, 2004 - 05:55 pm:

ah you don't, you go to walmart, and buy another white t-shirt. I have tryed with my girls shirts, and I have found nothing that works. Sorry not much help here.

I just read some stain tips in a mag the other day and it was saying that there are really no good ways to get rid of these stains. I have a few on a couple of my white shirts too :(

You can try soaking them in the hottest water you can find, and then pouring white vinegar directly on the armpits....then hang in the sunlight. If that doesn't work, then I guess it's "off to WalMart" LOL! BTW, my DH's undershirts get like that, but they also get stiff from having deodorant residue mix with perspiration (gross) and I just toss them when they get like that, because I have tried everything and NOTHING can help them when they get like that :(

Awww! :( No magic potion?

I wish I knew the answer to this one too. I had to throw shirts away for that. Do they get put in the laundry after they wear them or do they wear them again before doing this?

When dh's undershirts get like that they become sleep shirts for the boys. Sorry, no magic potion. :(

1. Yellow Armpit Stain Removal
These stains are likely caused by a combination of deodorant and perspiration. Many deodorants and antiperspirants contain aluminum salts. When these salts are combined with laundry detergent, especially in cooler water settings, they are not easily dissolved, and they remain on the fabric. To remove the stains, try soaking the T-shirts in warm water with liquid peroxide based cleaner such as Bio-OX Citrus Concentrate. Wash in the hottest water safe for the fabric. If the stain remains, dampen and sprinkle stain with meat tenderizer. Let stand for about an hour then launder again. To avoid new stains from forming, always wash the shirts in the hottest water safe for the fabric. To prevent these stains, allow your antiperspirant to dry completely before dressing.

Oooooh...Trisa! You have impressed me, girl! LOL It's worth a shot. I'll report back. Thanks!

Oxiclean worked on my DHs yellow stains. It did't get it completely out the first wash, but completely removed all yellowing after a few washes. I always use the oxi when I do his white work shirts.

Hope it works!
