I succeeded!!!
I'm embarrassed to admit, but Jeff and Katheryn were not registered to vote. That's *part* of the reason I've been so interested in getting younger people to get registered and VOTE! Last night, I shamed them into watching the debate, and before the first hour was up, they were both online registering to vote! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DH was shocked. We've been talking and nagging and preaching to them for so long about voting - especially Jeff, who just turned 21 - he has NO excuse! I'm feeling pretty good this morning!
Way to go! I'm amped up over this debate, too
You go girl!!!!
Karen, did you see the episode of Oprah this week about voting? IT was good. Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, P Diddy (i think is his name) and Christina Agiulera (sp?) were all on there telling young people to get off their duff's and *do* something. Explaining that each vote makes a big difference and if you dont vote you really cant complain!! I thouhgt it was a good show. Oh and the girls and Oprah were going over how it is *disrespectful* to the women that made it possible for us WOMEN to vote. So women really need to vote young and old alike. Dh and I are reg and have voted before. I usually take my kids with me so that they will know what its all about when they become of age to vote. Hopefully it will just come naturally to them at theat point.
That's great news!
Congratulations!
Way to be a great mom!!! The debate last night was great~
The power of persuasion! My oldest son would love to be able to vote. We've had a few conversations already about the candidates and the issues. I'm hoping that he still feels that way when he turns 18 in 2 years.
Conni, I posted on another thread about the *documentary* Drew did on why young people aren't voting. They replay it on MTV. I've also seen some others that were done. I've pushed MTV on my kids because I figured they would relate and pay attention to what's being said there. You can register to vote on their website.
oops sorry. lol I dont get to read all the threads on here. Thats cool they registered to vote! Glad to hear it!
I didn't know you could register on line. That is perfect.
Conni - I never get to watch Oprah. For some reason they expect me to work when I'm at work! LOL Seriously, I don't ever get to see it, so I didn't see the show you're talking about. But MTV has been VERY active in trying to get the young votes out there. They are catering to people 18-30, different musicians and actors have been involved, etc. Feona, I just learned recently you could register on line, you have to mail in some stuff to your State Registrar of Voters, but I went to the post office yesterday morning before going to work to make sure theirs was there before Monday.
Very cool! I couldn't wait to register the minute I turned 18. Unfortuantely there wasn't a *big* election for 2 more years--LOL
Karen~ I *Tivo* Oprah everyday!!! LOL Otherwise, I wouldn't get to see it either. I am slightly addicted to that show. I watch it at night when I can. That is pretty cool about MTV! And congrats on getting the kids to register!!!!
