Did you know?

I saw this and thought that it was very interesting...

When you go to buy bread in the grocery store, have you ever wondered
which is the freshest, so you "squeeze" for freshness or softness? Did you know that bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week? Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each day has a different color twist tie. They are: Monday=Blue, Tuesday=Green, Thursday=Red, Friday=White and Saturday=Yellow. So if today was Thursday, you would want red twist tie; not white which is Fridays (almost a week old)! The colors go alphabetically by color Blue- Green - Red - White - Yellow, Monday through Saturday. Very easy to remember. I thought this was interesting. I looked in the grocery store and the bread wrappers DO have different twist ties, and even the ones with the plastic clips have different colors. You learn something new everyday! Enjoy fresh bread when you buy bread with the right color on the day you are shopping.

My dad worked at Way Bakery in MI when we lived there & told us that. I always chek the twist ties before buying. It is a nice piece of info to have.

But...they all have 'fresh thru such and such date' printed on every label. So the colors don't matter, right? We can just find the ones with the farthest date away and not have to tax our brain so much by trying to remember colors and days of weeks? Or do they not label bread with dates in all parts of the country? Confused....but happy to have the twist tie info, just not sure my brain will ever remember it!

Yes! Someone posted this not too long ago. Pretty interesting huh? I always look at the twist ties now :)

Never knew that. Thanks for todays knowledge :) I just bought bread now and its yellow, so I guess its from Saturday. I always check the dates to on the bread. I really wonder if all the bakeries that make the bread go by this??

I would have trouble remembering all that when I go to the store. I guess if I wanted to make sure my bread was REALLY fresh, I would just make it from scratch! LOL!

We only get bread one day a week in our local store, so I doubt if the color of twist ties makes any difference (I think they're usually white anyway). Ah, the joys of living in a small town! LOL I do know that when the package has a "special" sticker on it, it's just about past its prime.
