Hair shedding

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2004: Hair shedding
By Christylee on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 - 12:00 am:

I have naturally thick hair and I'm at a loss as to how much hair I'm loosing daily. I know normally you shed hair daily but my shedding seems excessive, it seems to have gotten progressivly worse since I had my son. (he's three and a half)

Now my hair is so thick that honestly I could keep it up at this rate for quite some time and still not have a problem or even notice my hair thinning out. What is getting me is my hair is EVERYWHERE! I'm just so tired of it, if I'm as tired of it as I am I know DH has to be too. I've found it everywhere, including my refrigerator and that just grosses me out.

Is anyone else going through this same thing or have gone through it? Any thoughts or insights?

BTW, it's not in clumps or anything like that, it's single strands or a few at a time.

From what I know, this is a sign that your body lacks protein. Have you asked your doctor?

Thanks, because of a medical condition I have I have full blood work ups every 3-4 months and he's never said anything everything was anything but fine. I'm scheduled to go back in November so I'll mention it.

I had this problem, a multivitamin did the trick for me.

I to have been having this problem. I notice it most when I get out of the shower...it has only been in the past week.
I will have to try a multi vitamin.
Thanks

I've had this problem since about the third month after DD's birth (she was born in 1998). It comes out in fingerfulls! Tons left in the shower, tons all over the floor, and poor DH seldome gets a meal without finding one stray strand in it. Poor guy. Sorry, everyone. I know that thought is gross, but I try everything to keep it from happening.

Like you, I have very thick hair, so the loss itself I enjoy just in the hopes of thinner hair. But I do hate the mess of it. Never dawned on me that I might be lacking something.

I seem to shed at different times of the year. Much like an animal does. I have no idea why, but about twice a year I notice hair loss and then it seems to stop.

I was losing alot of hair at one point, too. So much so that you could see my scalp. It turned out that I had hypothyroidism, so you may want to specifically get your thyroxin level checked. Also, hair loss can be triggered from stress and defintely childbirth. Good luck.

Dana, you're post could have been written by me! lol... What do you use to get it all picked up, I looked today at Swiffers but didn't get one. We have tile in our kitchen and bathrooms the rest is carpeted.

I did see a large lint tape thingy on a pole that I almost got becuase I know that would work but didn't want to spend the $15 on it.

Thanks everyone, I take a multivitamin already so I can't go that route but I'm defintaly going to talk to my doctor when I go next time.

I lose alot of hair due to my
under active thyroid. have you been checked for that?

By Dana on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 - 05:08 pm:

I have the roomba vac and use that. I swallows it up in one swoop. But on the other hand, I have returned my Roomba 6 times now. Just got a replacement yesterday. Charged all night, turned it on and it does not work.

So as much as I love my Roomba, I would still not recommend it to anyone. When it works, it is the best thing in the world, but most of the time, it is broken.

Christy that is one of the symptoms of hypothyroid & that is a very hard thing to diagnose. I had mine checked 3 different times & finally the 4th test came back showing no thyroid activity.
