My Incredible Weekend!
I can't even do it justice. My mom, sis, a bunch of friends and I were part of the Weekend to End Breast Cancer iin Toronto. My mom and I were part of the lunch crew, and my sis and friends walked. They walked 60km over 2 days. We fed 5000 people. We raised 14.7 million dollars. It was absolutely exhausting both physically and emotionally, but one of the best things I've ever done! I will be there next year and every year, I'm sure. I so wish I could describe it to you. I'll send a few pics, but they won't mean much. I just have to tell you about the end. I'm sobbing as I type, because I just saw my mom on the City TV noon news. The crew lined up along the nose bleed section of the stadium. The families were in the seats. The walkers were clapped and CHEERED in by everyone. I'm crying. We all are. After some speaking, one woman walks slowly down the centre with a flag held high, as they describe the SURVIVORS - mothers, sisters, friends, spouses and families of those fighting. We continue to cry. The SURVIVORS walk in through the centre and line the front. MY MOM IS AN 18 YEAR SURVIVOR. Three of my walking friends and one of my crew mates are SURVIVORS. We SOBBED as they entered!!!!! After some more very emotional speaking, the crew is cheered in, and down we marched to circle around and just above them all. Very, VERY emotional!!!! Did I mention I cried????? Holy smokes, it just hasn't stopped!!
That is AWESOME! I'm proud of you for being so involved. A bunch of my friends are doing the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer walk. I'm planning on participating next year.
***Goose bumps*** Wow! What an experience and a super cause. KUDOS to you for taking part! Unfortunately my MIL wasn't a survivor. We lost her to breast cancer in 1993.
That is awesome!! Good for you for participating in such a worthy cause!
We are having our walk here in a couple of weeks and I've donated. I'm hoping to be able to walk next year. My SIL (in treatment currently, 6th round of chemo) is doing the walk in November in Austin if she is strong enough to. Kudos for you for doing such a wonderful thing, I bet that was an experience of a lifetime.
Yes, it was amazing!!! We have a mother/daughter walk in a few weeks, and the Terry Fox walk this weekend. I'm pumped now, after last weekend!!!
