Stain Help

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2008: Stain Help
By Reds9298 on Monday, January 28, 2008 - 04:15 pm:

DH spilled several drops of chocolate milkshake on a favorite cotton shirt lastnight. We rinsed it in cold water immediately then I used my tried and true Shout, soaking it. I washed it in cold and didn't dry it. The stains faded, and some were removed. Repeated washing using Shout and Oxy Clean, plus Oxy in the washer, warm water. Stains are lighter but 2 are still somewhat noticeable. Rewashed doing the same thing with the same result.

Anything else I can try on the remaining stubborn spots or am I at the end with this? It was a homemade milkshake with vanilla ice cream, milk, and chocolate syrup. I never thought I would have this much trouble completely removing the stain! I generally am able to get out even things I *think* might be stubborn.
TIA:)

I got a sample of Biz in the mail and I recently used on a small load of clothes that had set in stains, some chocolate. I'm like you I think of myself as a stain expert :). The biz worked great and I will definitely be picking some up. It's a laundry booster so I used my regular detergent as well along with shooting Zout right on the stains. Good luck!

Biz is a great booster and the best stain remover I know of is called Folex. I got mine at Home Depot and it's in an industrial looking spray bottle. I've used it to get everything out, blood, chocolate, washed and dried-in raspberry jello.

On really tough stains, especially ones that came through the dryer, I rub Pine Sol into the stain, and wash in the hottest water the fabric will stand. Almost every stain has gone away. If the shirt is white, you can try dabbing bleach on to the spot with a Q-tip, before washing.

Thank you ladies! I have not heard of the Biz or Folex, but will check them out. Will it be even worse on the stains since they will have to dry before I can get these other products?

Deanna, let the shirt air dry. It's the heat from the dryer that sets stains much of the time.

Okay thanks. :) It's just lying out on the washer right now, doing just that, but I was worried about how any drying might affect it. It hasn't been dried so far.
