Yet ANOTHER pregnancy question.....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2004: Yet ANOTHER pregnancy question.....
By Dana on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 11:50 am:

I recall w/ DD feeling slight pain in my pelvic area...the boney leg and pelvis joints. I recall it well as my legiments loosened. But it was mild and short lived.

However, this time, I am in tears sometimes from it. Could it be something else? I hear about a nerve getting pinched, but seems like that would hurt differently.

Anyway, my "butt bones" hurt daily whether I sit or stand or walk. No big deal besides discomfort. However, the other day I was cleaning Hurricane Frances debris from our back yard. Mom helped, I sat alot and rested and Mom did most of the bending while I raked. But I still was bending quite a bit.

I was sore the next day, but livable. That morning, poor DH who has been so understanding thru all my woes, looked, well, like he just needed my "wifely company". I was alert and feeling well enough so we spent the morning together.

Hour later, I couldn't even walk. I couldn't lie on the couch. I had poor DH rubbing my behind and all the bones around that area just to help me feel better. It helped and I could rest on the couch. I then tried to walk to the bed for sleep. I couldn't stand up! WHAT? It hurt so badly on both sockets and the inner pelvis bone (where the baby's head goes thru).

I finally cried myself to sleep (hormones and pains working) and could walk again after sleeping for a few hours. But still I am so soar. I've been soar for days now, well before the yard work ever started.

Is this just loosening legiments and bones readjusting like teeth hurt with braces? Or is this a nerve thing? It is in both legs...not legs, just the boney areas where the legs meet the pelvis.

Thanks for any other BTDT thoughts. I know there are no "stupid questions" but gosh this sure feels like one :)

{{{Dana}}} You're correct, there are no stupid questions! :)

How far along are you now? I would call your OB/GYN and tell him/her what you told us here. I never experienced anything to this extent during either of my pregnancies. Sore and uncomfortable at times, yes, but not to the point that you're describing. Call your doctor. Better safe than sorry.

I remember feeling extremely sore towards the end of my pregnancy. My pelvic bone, butt bone and every joint in that area. I would lie on the couch for hours without moving. If I stood up it would just put tons of pressure in those areas because of the baby weight. I never addressed it to my Doctor but it seems as if you are a bit more painful than I was. Call the doctor just to be safe. (((HUGS)))

This is probably totally different, but some people get the sciatic nerve pain. I had it at the beginning of this pregnancy and literally could not move at times w/o pain just shooting down my legs. I also have experienced tailbone pain recently--almost at the top of my bottom where it hurts to move. I think the last delivery injured it and now I am suffering from it. Again, these may be totally different but I just thought I would throw out some ideas. Isn't it hard to watch those people who don't even realize they are pregnant since they have it so easy?? I have been jeolous of them many times this pregnancy. I hope you get to feeling better--take it easy! Try not to lift kids/things much if you are hurting--I bet it will only make things worse.

I'm just shy of 19 wks (Wed is 19). So not late enough for a heavy baby making a difference.

Emdee, LOL about those "who don't even know" NO KIDDING! How can that happen, although I was 12wks before I knew with DD, although I had symptoms, just didn't know that's what it was. This has been a very tough pregnancy so far....and really nothing bad has happened. No idea why I am having such a difficult time.

BYW, thanks for reading and responding. There are times you just feel so dumb for wanting to ask about stuff.

I've had sciatic pain like that since my pregnancy, though now it's just occasional. Check your doctor, to make sure there isn't any permanent damage.

Crystal, so your pain felt like it was more in the joining bones rather than the actual leg? I always thought the sciatic nerve pain was more up and down the leg or back? Can they do anything for it, or do you just live with it?

Thanks!

Mine always feels like it's where my spine and my butt meet, and it can shoot into my leg. It's hard to describe, but it really feels like it's in the back of my hip socket. I've never had treatment for it, I think my mom goes to the chiropractor for it. Every so often I'll get pain again, and it pinches when I walk, gets more severe.

Dana,
It sounds like a combination of lligament loosening and doing more than you're use to. Bending, lifting, more than you nrmally do will make you sore, pregnant or not. While pregnant, you get even more sore.
I had a lot of pains during this pregancy that I did not experience the first time around because I was much more active during this pregnancy. My son is 35 pounds. Lifting him several times a day has not been easy ...
I'm a lot further along, but I've been experienceing some awful groin pain that stops me in my tracks at this point. I've had it all along when I do too much, but never this bad.
I find that I feel better when I have a high calcium intake during the day. I don't know why, but if I eat a lot of dairy and take a calcium supplement, I don't feel so bad.
All that said - talk to your OB anyway! each pregnancy is unique. What may be the case with some of us, may not be the case with you. Call and let us know.
Hoping you feel better!
