Uggh! Another Landlord Problem...what can I do?
Yet another issue with our former (well almost former) landlady. I swear she's going to give me a stroke. Our 30 days will be up on the 21st. We are already in our new place, but still have some odds and ends in the other house. Along with an expensive furniture set. I drove by that house this morning after dropping DD off at school. I drive by every day and sometimes go inside. After all, we are still responsible for it until the 21st. Well, this morning when I went by I noticed that ALL of the curtains were shut all of the way. We didn't do it. Some were open completely, and the living room ones were shut half way. None of them were shut all the way yesterday morning. So, we go to our old neighbors house to say hello and they inform us that the landlady had been there last night and she was INSIDE the house. She can't do that!!!!!!! It's still our house. We still have things in there. Our contract specifically states that if she needs to come inside for any reason (inspection, repairs etc.) that she has to give reasonable notice. But no, she's just prancing around in there doing her own thing without our knowledge. She is driving me insane with these stupid little stunts she pulls. The end of last week, we were over there cleaning and a couple stopped by and said they had called the real estate company that is handling the rental now (landlady moved out of town, and doesn't have the first clue about how to be a landlady) and they told them that the home was available NOW to move into, and that they could look at it any time. HELLO???? Our contract hasn't even expired yet! There is no way that people can move into it NOW. It's just been little things like this that just build and build (which is why we left in the first place). So, what can I do? Nothing? She shouldn't have been in there! We still have personal belongings in there. I hate this.
(((Robin))) I hope things get better and I'm sorry you have to go through this. It would drive me nuts too.
I guess she was a little anixous to get in their, and see what she had to do before the new renters come in. I think I would just call her tell her you noticed the curtains were moved, and that you were still getting your belongings out, and you wish that she would wait because your contract was not up, and you need to clean, and say if she insists on having people come by, when the contract is not up, that she can finish the cleaning or hire someone at her expense, because you do not want to start washing floors and have people veiwing the house, and mess things up. Try to be patient, you are almost out of their, then hopefully you can breath easier.
Good thinking Mrse. I can just call and tell her that we've already cleaned and that we'd appreciate it if she would go in and out until after the inspection so that we don't have to re-clean. (We have actually already cleaned everything. The place is spotless. Cleaner than when we moved in. We just have to move out the furniture in the formal living room.) I suppose I should just be patient. But it is just so annoying.
