Male cat question

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2004: Male cat question
By Marg on Friday, September 10, 2004 - 06:22 pm:

Do male cats who are not spayed/neutered spray their territory?

I know stupid question, yes, we have an inside male cat who needs to be "done." Sometimes, I smell an awful order, not urine. Is this true?

To make it short and simple.... Yes! I'd write more but DD calls for my attention. :)

Oh yes!! But they spray with urine...it is just a very musky distinctive smell. Unfortunately if not neutered before they hit puberty and start spraying, it may remain a habit after they are fixed. I'd get him fixed ASAP.

He's 10 months old, we didn't have the money this summer to "get him done." I did not know this. We only had female "fixed" cats growing up and I even had female cats here at the house. But late last fall the girls were given a male cat.

Thanks ladies:( I think, lol:)

When you have him neutered request that his sent glands be removed. Some vets do it routinely, other's you have to request it, it all depends on the vet. Just be sure to have it done ASAP.

Actually, both unfixed males AND females can spray, but most fixed cats don't. Usually neutering/spaying is enough to stop it -- immediately, in most cases.
