First Football Injury
But wouldn't you know, it wasn't my son playing football, it was my son who was watching the practice who got hurt! He was on the bleachers and he fell. Fractured his collar bone. Poor kid will be in a brace for the next 4-6 weeks. No hockey and no gymnastics until then. On a good note, the doctor assured me that if you are going to break a bone, outside of toes, this is the one to break. He's in good spirits and even went to school today after the x-rays. (He's determined to get the perfect attendance award at the end of the year-LOL). If you could send some get-well vibes to my Griffin, I am sure he would just love it!
Oh no! Poor Griffin! My sister broke her collar bone as a kid when she fell while ice skating. I hope recovery goes well for Griffin and the brace isn't uncomfortable.
Bless his heart. Hope he feels better soon. AJ
Hope he heals soon! Ame
Awwww Poor little guy. Hope it feels better soon. At least it's not summertime anymore. That makes it a *bit* easier.
Bless his heart for going back to school! I hope he heals fast!
Poor Griffin! Feel better soon!
Thanks everyone! Robin, believe me, he is very pleased with the timing of this. Wakeboarding season is over and skiing is still a bit off, so he's not missing his two favorite activities. I did have to pull him out of roller hockey which was starting this weekend, but that's okay because the next session starts in 8 weeks. He'll be back in full swing by then. Thankfully our heat wave has finally ended so he won't be too hot with the brace on. It's not too big or anything, but since he has to wear it all the time except for showering, I think the cooler temps will be much more comfortable for him. I talked to his teacher today and she knows she is welcome to call me if she thinks he needs Tylenol for the discomfort. He's in very good hands at school. Also, his best friend broke his collar bone a couple years ago and is being very helpful. He even told Griff about all the bonuses of this: he won't have to make his bed or clean his room or anything. LOL. At least there is a silver lining. Thanks again for all the well wishes. He's hurting right now, but should be feeling much better soon.
hope he get's to feeling better soon...That's always how kids get hurt not actually doing the activity that is "so dangerous" lol like for my boys they get hurt worse by riding their bikes rather than driving their Quarter Midget race cars = ) heal quickly buddy = )
Oh no! I was hoping it just wouldn't be broken! I hope he feels better very soon! Hey, not having to make your bed....Cool!
Ouch!! That seems like such an awkward injury---is he able to sleep well with the brace on? Hope he mends quickly! Sounds like he has a great attitude about it.
Hope he gets better quickly... it's good that you have a son who wants to go to school! My little brother (13) would use this as an excuse to miss as much as possible!
Brandy, isn't that always the way? The doctor told us this is the most common football injury she see's. Of course, he wasn't the one on the field! Pam, I have one of those cushions that you can lean against to read, watch tv, etc. I gave that to him and he sleeps sitting up. He cannot get comfortable at all. He says he sleeps okay, but he looks very tired right now. Jennifer, I am sure if he was 13 he would use this as an excuse not to go. LOL. But at 7 school is still pretty fun. This morning he was in so much pain. I told him he could stay home. He said he wanted to go. I am going in a couple minutes to pick him up. If he wants to stay, that's fine. But I don't know if he will be able to handle more than a couple hours today. It's so sad to see him like this. Thanks again for all your get-well wishes. Hopefully he will start feeling better soon.
I just went to the school and he said with a big smile that he wanted to stay. Wow! His teacher said he has been doing great. So he will be there until the end of the day. I have to give that kid a lot of credit. I don't know that I would be doing so well!
