Hey Yvonne, I just read your awesome answers on the other DIY thread, I know your busy, so I hope you see this!! I'm thinking of re-doing the kitchen and dining room floors, they are this awful mismatched vinyl and are buckled in a couple places. I'm fairly handy, but so far people have told me to not even TRY this!! Have you done any floors? What would you recommend? TIA

By Yjja123 on Sunday, January 27, 2008 - 06:36 pm:

I have installed carpet, tile and hardwood laminate. ALL were fairly easy.
I recommend you strip the vinyl and decide what you want in it's place.
Once you decide, I can give ya more info on installation.
Why never try it? You CAN do it!
Start with one room so you do not feel overwhelmed!

PS---Easiest would be the hardwood laminate.

Thanks for the quick answer? I'm getting new carpet in the bedrooms, living room, and adding it to the hall, is that something that can be done without too much headache? I always assumed you had to leave that to pros, but seeing the "pros" makes me wonder why anybody couldn't figure it out. What were your thoughts on that project? How did you get into the DIY rennovations?

What do you think of this? It got fabulous reviews, and it says you can lay it over your existing floors. We might still rip up the old floors, especially since there is a little raised area in one area, but if we could avoid that it would be great!!

Flooring

The most difficult part of carpeting is making sure you stretch it into the corners. It just takes some time but can be done.

When we moved here, we had very little $. I started watching HGTV. I felt that if they could do it, so could I. I refuse to pay labor for something I can do. I have learned as I go.

The flooring looks fine but you MUST have a flat floor to begin with. If not, it will start to pop up on you.
