Burnt Pacifiers!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2004: Burnt Pacifiers!
By Fionadeassis on Thursday, August 26, 2004 - 12:19 am:

I was sitting feeding Kiko and watching Unsolved Mysteries(LOL Mamaroze!).....All of a sudden I heard this wierd ringing sound...it was my smoke alarm!!

I had put 2 pacifiers in a pot of water to sterilize..and left it for half an hour!!

My house was filled with putrid black smoke!! I now have every window and door in the house open. Luckily my family room is downstairs from the kitchen so we are safe from fumes in here...

Funny what 2 months of no sleep from having a newborn can do...last week I burned my kettle the same way......

wow, you better get some rest, that must have been scary when you heard that alarm go off. Hope it did not take to long for the smoke to clear. Glad everyone is ok.

Boy, do I ever know what you mean! My son is now 5 mo old. I have nodded off while feeding him in the recliner when he used to wake up in the middle of the night. When my head started to "fall" I woke up. Good luck and Congratulations!

PS-Let a family member look after the baby for awhile so you can get some rest. You deserve it and so does that precious baby.

You don't have to boil the pacifiers. Too dangerous! Plus I heard the mouth is very very dirty anyway. Just wash with soap and hot water.

Don't feel bad, I did that once too! Burnt nipples and pacifiers, boy did that burnt rubber stink!

By Jelygu on Thursday, August 26, 2004 - 10:43 am:

I have also done it before, but I also ruined the pot! The pacifiers stuck to the bottom of my favorite pot! And the smell.... yuck!

By Fionadeassis on Thursday, August 26, 2004 - 10:44 am:

This morning you can still smell it in the kitchen. It is sssssssoooooooo gross!

Feona-Kiko has thrush. They said that I had to boil the pacifiers.....It's a hassle to do it, so I wouldn't mind just washing with soap and water....I wonder if it would be ok....

yes, I do need more sleep.....

I have also done it. I burnt them so bad I had to throw the pot out. I got a timer that I just sat next to me so if I fell asleep I would hear it go off.

fiona, you want to boil those paci or you will never kill the yeast. Your other option is to run them through the dishwasher twice and heat dry them. My answer to not burning them, putting them in a big pot with lots of water :)
