Red Food Dye Alternative
Does anyone know of a natural alternative to red food dye? I tried looking it up online, but all I found were sites selling products. I want to know how to make my own. I want to make red and pink frosting for a Valentines treat for ds's class.
http://www.anniesrecipes.com/Kitchen/Easter_recipes/natural-easter-egg-dye-recipe.htm This is a whole list of different colored dye to make naturally. I think the red was done with beets.
lots and lots of boiled red onion skins.
I think that boiled onion skins, while it works for Easter Egg dye, might not add a very nice taste to frosting, but beet juice might work, I'm just not sure how to do it. I don't want the flavor of the beets and I'm wondering how well beet juice would work in frosting. I'll check out that website, Rayelle. Thanks ladies!
oooh, you are right, didn't think about the taste...yuck!
you can try this too. Should taste fine with cupcakes. http://www.boutell.com/vegetarian/frosting.html
