Make sure you take your daughter to the dentist to be certain the break did not expose any part of the nerve. I broke my front tooth and it was not to the gum line, but I still exposed the nerve. For me it hurt incredibly, but I have heard that you don't always notice the severity of the break until later.

If the nerve is exposed, she will need a root canal surgery. With the nerve removed, in time, the tooth turns grey or brown because it is a dead tooth. And with even more time the tooth will deteriorate and just start to chip away.

I'm telling you all of that because I was never told this. I had the root canal done and thought all was well. At the time I was a teenager and under parents insurance. Well, years later when my tooth discolored I was told I needed to eventually have a fake tooth or crown done. Costs ranged from $3,000-8,000 depending on who I talked to. But on my own in my 20's without dental insurance, I had to just let it stay ugly and wait for it to start chipping away. Thankfully, 3 years ago I finally had coverage and have a crown. FYI, I was in H.S. when it happened and I was almost 40 when I got my crown....so it does take quite some time for a tooth start "falling apart."

But long story short, make sure there is no nerve damage. If there is be sure to ask the dr about long term effects of having root removed. And take care of total care of tooth now, rather than years from now.
