Cool summer

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2004: Cool summer
By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 - 11:42 pm:

Only 60's today, cloudy, gray and gloomy. I'm sitting in my basement with a sweatshirt and long pants on! Good grief. Tomorrow, we could set a record for the lowest HIGH temperature of the day! Weather Underground says only 60. One of the tv weather people said 63. Either way, it's pretty chilly. Also, it's supposed to be windy tomorrow, too! Almost makes one WANT to be at Whistling Straits watching the PGA guys practice! NOT! I bet the golfers are so impressed with Wisconsin weather! The golf venue is only about 15 minutes from my house, isn't that cool?

Then, tomorrow night, high 40's to low 50's. Unbelievable! I think summer is over and fall is here! LOL! It would just figure that September will be hot after such a cool August!

By Mommyathome on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 12:05 am:

I wish we could just have one day of "cool" sometime soon! It's been in the 100's for what seems like forever. But at night, it gets quite comfortable :) I'm looking forward to fall!

By Tink on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 12:19 am:

We have had a slightly cooler than usual summer here too. That is...until this week. It had been a beautiful high of 85 or so. This week we have jumped to 100. It is supposed to be the hottest day of the summer tomorrow. Oh well, I enjoyed the nice weather while it lasted.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 01:03 am:

100's??? Not in Wisconsin. Not this summer. We have barely had any "hot" weather at all. Just a few days here and there. Especially those of us near Lake Michigan! LOL! "cooler near the lake." It's a phrase heard often, even during a normal summer!

We're having a hot (80's), WET summer this year here in CT. LOTS of rain and thunder and lightening storms.

My parents are in the Chicago area for the next 10 days visiting family. When my mother called here yesterday she told me how cool it was up there, only about 62 degrees. My parents drove up from South Florida where they have been living fo for the last 2 1/2 yrs..She said how she wasnt use to that cool weather anymore.. I lived in the Chicago area for 29 yrs , and glad not to live there anymore.. I love my hot summers here in Va Beach, although we did have some hot summers in the Chicago area as well.
I think we are to be around mid 80's all week.

We've had heat indexes near 110 for several weeks. A *cool* front is supposed to bring our high temps down into the high 80's this weekend!

By Marcia on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 07:48 am:

Our summers, in southern Ontario, are normally hot (80's-90's), hazy and humid. In fact, we normally seem to skip spring, and go straight from winter to heat wave summer. This summer has been cool and wet. We've had a few semi hot days, but nothing like normal. I hate this! Bring on the heat!!! I'm hoping summer starts soon, and lasts until Christmas!!

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 08:19 am:

OUr summers here are usually in the 80s and 90s. The norm for this summer is the 70s. Todays high is only 70 degrees. It's 60 right now, no way am I taking my kids to swimming lessons this morning! The poor kids would be icicles by the time they come out!

By Kernkate on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 10:22 am:

Our summer here has been very cool here. It the temp hit 80 7 days this summer that was alot. No 90 degree days at all. Right now its only 64. Its hasn't been a great summer for swimming.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 11:15 am:

We are in the 50's this morning. 54 on my thermometer and Weather Underground said 52. It is CHILLY out there! It feels like fall and the brisk wind isn't helping much. It has been a horrible summer for swimming. I haven't been able to take my kids because on the hot days I have been working and every time I have off, it's too cold.

By Debbie on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 11:27 am:

Dawn, I am right below you, northwest of Chicago. We were 65 yesterday and will be mid-60's today and tomorrow. I am sitting here in a sweatshirt too!!!!! We are going to a Cubs game tomorrow and I am having to dig out the boys jeans!!!! We are having a very cool summer(so everyone is telling me) We have only had 3 days in the 90's and a handful of days in the 80's. My boys are so sad that we have only been swimming 4 times this summer. We are used to Texas summers and this is just so weird for us. Oh well, we are heading down to Disney next week. I guess we will be able to swim and sweat for a few days at least.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 07:52 pm:

Even in a normal summer, it seems the sweatshirts aren't far away. We usually need them to watch the fireworks or any other evening thing. It's weird, and I have lived in WI my whole life. Usually summers aren't this cold! The summer of 1988 was a particularly hot one and so was part of the summer of 1995.

By Mommyathome on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 08:21 pm:

Dawn....you live in "my style" of weather. Those are my favorite temps. Maybe I'll move to your neck of the woods LOL.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 11:29 pm:

I don't think I could live in the south! It's just too warm for me! LOL! I'm whining, but I really do like living up here!

By Marcia on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 - 11:33 pm:

The crappy weather sure hasn't stopped my kids from swimming, and our pool has averaged only around 72*. They're much braver than their mommy, who needs it to be 90 out and at least 85 in the pool. LOL

By Bea on Thursday, August 12, 2004 - 12:10 am:

It's been warm and wet here too. Normally we have hot humid summers, but little rain . This year our gardens are lush, and the grass needs constant mowing. Although we've had more rain than usual, it didn't stop the pool time for our grand daughter. As long as there was no lightning, she swam, even in the pouring rain. I'd sit just inside the poolhouse door, watching her and her friends having a ball.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, August 12, 2004 - 06:50 am:

No one would have been swimming yesterday! LOL! Brrr!

By Debbie on Thursday, August 12, 2004 - 09:52 am:

Well, we are heading to the Cubs game in a few hours, high today is going to be 63. We have our jeans and heavy sweatshirts on and a blanket. Oh well, it is suppose to warm up by Sunday.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, August 12, 2004 - 10:52 am:

It is warmer here today! It's already 60, but the sun is shining, so it feels warmer. Yesterday, it was cloudy and that made it feel so much colder.
