Jasmine is now microchipped
After a story on the dog board I go to, about someone almost losing a pet, but then finding it and getting it back, I decided to make an appointment to get Jasmine microchipped. The lost dog in the store is microchipped now, but not before getting lost once. I'm very happy that she has had it done, although, she didn't like having it inserted. But she was only uncomfortable for a short time. After the vet was done, she didn't act uncomfortable at all. The vet tech that helped also has a cattledog. She wonders if Jasmine is a purebred. We will never know for sure, but she does have the white mark on her forehead and she does like to nip at heels. (It's what cattledogs do!) The vet tech wishes she had found Jasmine at the shelter! LOL! The vet scanned her before he put it in, just in case she already had one. Fortunately, she didn't. Then he scanned the chip he inserted and the number popped up on the screen. It's rather cool! Then we had to fill out some paperwork and send a check and the paperwork to the AKC to be put in their database. $40 for the chip and the insertion and $12.50 to get her registered and put in the database. Seems a small price to pay for piece of mind. Oh, and yet another tag to put on her collar, but this one is rubber, so it won't make any noise. (ID tag, license, rabies tag, and microchip tag!)
Our cats are microchipped. We did it when they were kittens several years ago. Not only because we consider our cats as beloved family members, but also because they're purebred and cost a bit of money. They're strictly indoor pets but *if* they ever got out we'd want to get them back if at all possible. However, I've been told there are a few different microchip systems and different areas use different ones. One type of scanner will not read a microchip from a different system. Since moving to CT I haven't looked into what system is used here. Hmmm, suppose I should dig up the paperwork and look into it.
We have the Home Again microchip. Home Again Microchips Yeah, you would hate to lose expensive cats! Although, we have enough money invested into Jasmine already! LOL!
I think ours are AVID microchips. I need to dig up the paperwork and update our information. It said on the web site that AVID offers microchips that can be read by all scanners but I don't remember that being an option when we got them 10 (?) yrs. ago.
Awwww....we have a Cocker Spaniel named Jasmine. We call her Jazzy most of the time, though. She's our baby! My four year old ds is her buddy, though!
Jazzy here, too! LOL!
