My DS had his baseball hat down that it was pushing his ears over a bit. My FIL comes over and says that it will damage his ears and they could be stuck turning down like that! I think this is so funny because it just sounds...well...stupid. He has told me this several times before, well one of the last times he told me another older guy was there and was like, "yes that is true". These guys are old south and I was just wondering if there is fact in this or if this is just one of those "southern things"? What do you think?

LOL Chrissy! I have lived in the south my entire life and I've never heard that! I have no idea if it's true, but it reminds me of something *I* was always told growing up: My hair was always long and parted in the middle. I pushed it behind my ears, and my grandmother always told me if I kept wearing it that way, it would make my ears stick out!

LOL, I believe this is a bit of truth. Think about it. The ears are not bone, they are pliable. IF you wore a hat 24 hours a day over a long period of time you would probably cause them scar and cause the ears to remain sticking out when the hat came off. It use to be if your ears stuck out they Dr would have your parents put a head band or wrap around them to pin them back to your head. They also had a rubber band thing out a long time ago that they used to hold the ears back. It had clips that pinched on the ear and a black elastic that went behind the head, saw it on one of those antic road show programs.

I have also seen a thing they use to wear to make the nose turn up. At one point in time the wealthy thought a turned up nose was proper. So they would put this band thing on when they went to bed that went over the end of the nose and around the back of the head. So I am assuming that your nose can be manipulated to a certain point too. Not as in make a huge nose small but turn the tip up or down over time.

Anyway, is it true that him wearing it every once in a while will make them stick out? NO I doubt it. Over time, I would say sure it is possible. And I just love how old folks carry tails like that. Just makes me laugh at some of the things they come up with.
