Molar Pregnancy

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2004: Molar Pregnancy
By Rose on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 - 10:30 am:

Our daughter found she had a complete molar pregnancy (CMP) on 4/30. I've learned alot about this condition since and would like to talk with others who've gone through this to share information. Our daughters HCG levels were going down nicely until this week when the last blood test showed they went up. If they continue to go up she'll need to start Methotrexate, a low dose chemotherapy. This would have been their first child and our first grandchild. Rose

First of all, welcome to Momsview, Rose.

I had never heard of this so I did a quick google, and found this helpful article, for our other members who want to know:

Molar Pregnancy

I hope your daughter will be OK. I'm sorry your family is going through this.

I don't know much about this, but I wanted to express my sympathy. I'm so sorry for you and your daughter.

A good friend of mine had one. Had to do the low dose chemo. She came out fine and had two other babies.

I didn't know the term for this, but I recall a friend and his wife had this happen some years ago. They also went on to have another baby, but I remember wondering how it was possible. It would be devastating, and I'm so sorry to hear about it. {{HUGS}} :(

The website on Molar pregnancy that Karen added to her post is excellent, one of my favorites! Thanks for adding. And thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Texannie, thanks for the update on your friend, it's encouraging. Rose

I hadn't ever heard of this before either and I also did a search and read up on it. My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

I had a friend who had this happen to her. She was 5 months along. Very bad news. I know there was a long period of time that she couldn't get pg again for (I think it might have been as much as 2 years), but she went on to have 2 successful pg and 2 wonderful kids.

Rose,

I had a Molar pregnancy a few years ago. I found out when I was 17 weeks when I went in for an Ultra Sound.and previous appointments they never were concerned we heard a heart beat. And it was a total shock. I had never heard of it eather. They were throwing so much information to me at one time I felt like I was lost and then they tell me that I could have to have chemo. When I had my first hcg levels done it was so high that it concerned the Dr. I had a D&c a few days later and My levels started going down slowly and around the 4-5 month they rose alittle but went down the next. I had to give blood once a month for a year. and I couldn't try to get pregnate again until I had one solid year of low levels. and then went on to have twins (boy and girl). But I did find out that it was comin in women who were Indian and a few others. (I am 1\4 choctaw). It is rough to go through. I am so sorry for your loss and your daughters loss. It would have been my 3rd child and I was due on hubbys birthday. If there is anything I can do let me know. Your daughter will be in my prayers and tell her not to give up. She will be blessed with many blessings.

Marie,
You have a beautiful family! Thank you so much for sharing your story. I'm so happy to hear you went on to have twins, a boy and a girl. Maybe that will happen to our daughter, to make up for the time lost waiting to try again. Our daughter was hoping to have her first child by age 29 1/2, but now she won't be able to try again until she's over 30. Thank you for your prayers. She gets the results of todays blood test tomorrow afternoon.
Sincerely, Rose

To all you lovely ladies who have prayed and wished us well. I'm happy to report that our daughter just got off the phone with her doctor and Her counts went from over 300,000 down to 4,800 to 780 to 198 to 167 up to 174 and today they are DOWN to 34!! I couldn't have made the last few days without all the helpful information I got from you girls and all the prayers and well
wishes. Thank you all so much! I know there is a plan for all of us, much greater than we can imagine, a plan for a future and a hope. These trials we go through make us stronger in the end and we can be a blessing to someone else who is going through the same thing. You've been a blessing to me. Sincerely, Rose
