I'm over-stressed:(

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2004: I'm over-stressed:(
By Marg on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 - 07:40 am:

Dh works for a company that subcontracts him out to the public school system. He was laid off on the 11th, but thought he could work for the company's group home. However, he has done something to his knee, I believe it is Brusitis (sp?) the dr. said it is either that or cartlidge. Anyway, he hasn't been working and was supposed to start a summer job beginning June 30th. The dr. postponed that until July 6th. If it isn't better than, it will be an MRI and surgery.

We have no income coming in. He did not sign up for unemployment (which would be minimal since his job's rate of pay) due to his thought of working at the group home and starting this new job.

Now if he goes in for unemployment, there is a huge chance he will not get it due to his knee. The company can say he is unable to do his job, not that they didn't need him:(

I'm sooo stressed, if he does start this job, he will not get a paycheck until the end of July. If he needs surgery, I don't think he'll go back to work until August 19th. The company he works for does not have short/long term disability.

Sorry, just stressed, need prayers and above all need a lot of miracles.

Can you work? Go back to work? Even temproarily? My dh has been through lots of layoffs in the past 18 months and it has been a blessing that at least we have one income that is stable (mine). There are other types of government assistance availiable, but I'm not knowledgeable about that. For example, CT has health insurance for kids of low income families. I think you have to apply with the local social services office. Not sure though. I'm sure someone else knows more about that.

By Trisa on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 - 08:08 am:

I will be praying for you guys. I am so sorry
about his knee. Can family help you out at all until he is back to work? I know it sucks to have to ask for help but you do what you can to get by. I pray he does not need surgery and will be back to work very soon. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

Dh is bedridden (sp?) It wouldn't be so bad, the 12 and 8 yo could be at the house, but he can't take care of the 3 yo, I would have to get a sitter. He is really only supposed to get up and go to the bathroom. He can't even stand up in the shower by himself.

Plus he is taking college courses and I'm taking courses. I am supposed to start working late October/early November.

I am sorry you are going through such a hard time right now. I will pray that things will take a turn for your husband's health and that the job situation will work out.

By Momaroze on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 - 09:18 am:

Sounds like a very tough situation. I feel for you both! No advice at the moment. Think of this as a temporary set back. You may think of something if you are not so stressed. Hard to not be stressed, I know! Glad to hear you will be going back to work though (soon). Hang in there!! Maybe you could find something you could do from the home for money? I always seem to be able to provide in-home daycare for parent's who just need a break, not much money, but helps, house cleaning, pet sitting.....just brainstorming.

By Emily7 on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 - 09:58 am:

I will keep you in my prayers. Have him try for unemployment, if the company says its because of his knee, maybe try for workers comp. I know you have to report within a certain time period, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

By Mrse on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 - 10:11 am:

unemployment will put him on medical leave. I think even though he had not applyed right away, I think since it is a medical issue that they will count thoses weeks. Did he have a previous claim,? I know my dh when he goes on ui, he would finish out an old claim before starting the new one, if he had been making more money back then. You can apply right on line, I do it for my dh when he gets layed off, it is really easy, just make sure he is handy for the questions, make sure you have his lay off slip, so you know the dates he started and finished, and how much a week he makes. Also remember to look into the fine print on any loans you have, it may be automatically paid. My dh life insurance paid for his loans, and the extra insurance on credit cards paid for the credit card payment. It is worth checking into. A lot of us buy this extra insurance in case but don't use it, because we forgot all about it. Hope his knee feels better soon, and things straighten out for you. :)

Oh Marg, I am so sorry. I will be praying for you and your family. If you need to vent or whatever, just email me :).

{{{Marg}}} hang in there, I'm so sorry you are going through this.

By Marg on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 - 10:56 am:

Thanks ladies, it wouldn't be so bad, but he is in that depressed mode and sometimes he can be worse than our 3 yo when he's sick.

He can't go anywhere (drs. orders). It's just depressing all around. I try to stay cheery for him, but aaaarrrgggghhh, just need a vent.

Thanks Mrse, we don't have any credit cards or bills, just utilities and a small l-o-c for home improvements. It's just getting the regular stuff paid.

((((Marg))))
I'm sorry you have to go through this. Just remember that you *will* make it through. It may be tough, but it will make you a stronger person. Lots of thoughts and prayers coming your way.

By Mrse on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 - 11:10 am:

no problem, I just thought I would mention it just in case, because a lot of people do not realize they even have the insurance. Do you think you will be able to do the uic on the computer? would be alot easier than having to get a wheel chair and take him down to the office, which is what it sounds like you would have to do. Thinking of you and your family, hope things turn around. Can you get his friends to come over and see him, then you can get out for a while.

By Marg on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 - 11:19 am:

Thanks Mrse, the only reason we keep up on the internet is because dh does online courses.

And yes, (dh works in the state of Maryland and that's who he would collect from), I looked it up and it looks like you can file online, what a shock that was, I knew you were from Canada and I wasn't sure if any states in the U.S. did it online.

He really thinks he can go to work on the 6th, I'm praying.

Actually what I'm studying for I will be able to work at home, yippee (Bubbels had posted one time about working at home, and I looked into it and found a way).

By Kittycat_26 on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 - 11:33 am:

You and your family are in my thoughts, Marg. If there is anything I can help with please just ask.

There is always light at the end of the tunnel but sometimes it's just a pin prick at first.

Marg,

I hope it all works out for your family. I am still suffering from my knee. I'm over the swelling and pain, now I'm in the embarassing stage where it takes me 5 minutes to climb a flight of stairs..lol :)

Take care of yourself and then others. Otherwise you will get burnt out soooo fast!
