Pink Eye

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2004: Pink Eye
By Melanie on Saturday, June 26, 2004 - 03:13 pm:

I am on vacation in NH and have developed pink eye. I won't be back in CA until Tuesday night. Are there any home remedies out there I could try? :) TIA!

Wash your eye out with Johnson & Jonhson baby shampoo. That is what the Drs. told my Mom to do 30 years ago

You'll need antibiotics to get rid of the bacteria causing the infection. I would either: (a) Call your family doc back home and see if he/she will call you in a prescription at a nearby pharmacy or (b) Go visit a "doc-in-the-box" for a script. Hope you're feeling better soon!! Lots of warm compresses help with the itchy and stickiness and wash your hands often.

Breast milk is supposed to cure pink eye...just a thought :)

Are there any Walk-In clinics in the area? You really need to see a doctor ASAP, not only for your comfort, but also because Pink Eye is very contagious. {{{HUGS}}}

Thanks everyone. I am doing the Johnson and Johnson thing to try to get through. Since it's Sunday calling my doctor won't do any good and the walk-in clinic is closed, so I have to get through at least today. I am washing my hands constantly and being careful not to touch my eye, as I do realize how contagious it is. Thanks for your help!

I use plain old Neosporin when we start coming down with it. I pull out the lower eyelid and place a little blob of it in there, then gently massage the eye (lids closed) to spread it around. Takes care of it within a day. The petroleum jelly will make your vision blurry for a few minutes, but that goes away quickly.

I have no home remedies, but hope that your eye is feeling better soon. That is no fun.

Oh no! No fun! I hope the Johnson's is helping. Remember to throw out your makeup and also to change your pillow case a lot until it's cleared up. I hope it's feeling better today.

Thanks everyone. I went today and got eyedrops, so it should be better soon. I think the Johnson's shampoo did help a bit. At least it made me feel like I was doing something until I could see a doctor! Thanks for all your help. I am flying back to CA tomorrow so I will be back to the board in a few days. :)
